  • Culture Shift taking place

I’ve seen enough crap about red flags and blaming the coaches for doing something wrong to cause this many transfers. This is clearly a product of the year end meetings. Brett Barney and Malone probably weren’t going to make the team next year. Keyser did not rise to the occasion.
I, for one, thought this team was Shaq embodied. I was not proud of the way they played. There is a solid core coming back- McDuffie, SJH, Reaves, Midtgaard, and Rod Brown. Marshall is already adding preferred walk-ons with grit, and along with players leaving, Marshall seems to be rebuilding this team with players that have moxie and plenty of MTXE. If it takes a down year to reestablish the Play Angry attitude, then thats what it takes, and I will be proud of them for leaving it all on the floor.

SJH’s anxiety problems will end IMHO when he is not asked to play point guard. Wasn’t a pg at East nor at Hutch. The complexity of calling the right set or executing HCGM’s offense was overwhelming to him. Put him at the 2 and let him play naturally and you will see a totally different player. Which is why we need two true PGs on the roster next year.

Interesting. I was really looking forward to Lomax as I thought he would be a good pure pg, but if we could get a freshman and a grad transfer, i would be happy.

Totally agree.. A wave of transfers implies to me either:
    1. The wheels completely fell off of the program and everyone's getting out while they can - the knee jerk, all or nothing thought
    2. Certain players haven't panned out so far and the outlook for playing time didn't look much better - doesn't this seem objectively more likely?

*Seniors are seniors. There's just a bunch of them this time.

*Working class kid has all but been told he is going to get paid in the NBA draft, so he's going to go and get paid.

*Under-developed sophomore (or sophomores) transfers to a lesser program for playing time. Tell me you've read this story before.

*Walk-ons see that it will only be walk-on status and say nah.

In spite of all of the above, from an average talent perspective, Marshall is bringing in his strongest class ever, even after losing its centerpiece in ALo. Not to mention that we very well might upgrade in talent (on paper) at almost every vacant spot.

        Growing pains.

Removing CJ and a few pine riders isn't a culture change. It also doesn't improve our actual problems: Our defense, drive game, and taking care of the ball.

and we've lost our best player, team mvp: shaq morris.

i don't know who plays the post next year.

It's a program, not a 7 year flash in the pan. The culture is in place. Some of the pieces didn't fit as well this year and Gregg had to adjust. Pretty sure his philosophy is set in that he's not a fan of pretty basketball. Expect the 8 newcomers to pleasantly surprise. Really only need 4 of them to do so.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

we might need 4 of them to work out and the rest transfer so we can get some class balance again. It's not really a bad thing if some of this recruiting class don't work out for one reason or another.

Need a good big man. Reaves can carry the guards

I can honestly say anyone else that leaves will not be encouraged to by the coaching staff.

One thing I wondering is who will be the leader in that locker room next year. With all the veteran leadership we lost, someone will have to step into that role.

We lost a lot of veterans, not sure how much veteran leadership we lost. Not that some didn;t try, but did not appear to be a strongly led team. Just an opinion.

Veteran leadership? Instead of providing leadership, too many of our veterans were missing practices with excuses Marshall wasn't buying. A veteran providing leadership doesn't show up for shoot around before a game in street clothes.

It’s pretty clearly Reaves. That photo of him encouraging a defeated Landry in the locker room at the end of the year is evident of that. Reaves was one of the leaders of this years team, along with RK.

Not sure if this was in response to my post about leaders, but if so, I agree those are the two most likely candidates.

Thing is, some just don’t naturally fit into that role. Some people find that voice in moments like this. It’s possible that leader isn’t on the roster yet.

Yes it was. Reaves is a leader. Markis needs to step up. We need a strong locker room again
