These are highlights of last year's squad but focuses on their main man, Elmore which evidently the offense runs through him. Seems they like to spread you out and allow Elmore to do his thang or kick it out

I would doubt that they are a great defensive team. They do have high assists and play as a team. IMO, we need to limit turnovers, smartly attack on offense with good passing and good ball movement, control the tempo in a smart way, and rebound like crazy. We also should press full court to change things up.

Marshall is capable. 3-2 Q1 with a narrow loss @ Xavier. If the Shox show up to play, this will be a win. If our 1st half South Dakota St shows up, we’ll get beat. Pretty straightforward.

"Herd faces Wichita State in East Region" - The Herald-Dispatch

"HUNTINGTON — It was a celebration that was 31 years in the making.

On Sunday evening, fans filed into the Cam Henderson Center to join Marshall's men's basketball team for the announcement of the pairings for the NCAA tournament.

It was announced that Marshall would play Wichita State in its first game of the NCAA Tournament. The matchup between the Herd and the Shockers will take place at 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday in San Diego, Calif.

Marshall junior guard Jon Elmore, the Conference USA Tournament MVP, said that he looks forward to the matchup with the Shockers.

"I think it's a good matchup for us," Elmore said. "They've got good guards, and we've got good guards. They've got a good big, and we've got a good big. We like our chances and we're going in fired up."

The winner of Friday's matchup will take on the winner of West Virginia and Murray State on Sunday.

As the announcement was made, players jumped to their feet with fans cheering in the seats behind them.

Elmore added that Wichita State is the mold for what Marshall is trying to create within its program. The Shockers were a mid-major that established consistency and earned respect on a national level to become one of the nation's powers despite being from a non-Power 5 conference.

"Most mid-majors - a lot of teams - look up to guys like them, Gonzaga, teams like that who have broken that mid-major/high-major barrier and won regardless of the size of the school," Elmore said.

There are plenty of connections between the teams and their staffs. Wichita State is led by former Marshall assistant Gregg Marshall and former Marshall head coach Donnie Jones is an assistant for Wichita State.

"Yeah, Donnie Jones and Gregg Marshall. We're familiar," Marshall head coach Dan D'Antoni said. "It'll be exciting. I know that they're happy to get in and we're happy to get in. They want to advance and we want to advance. We have to travel a little ways to do it, but it'll be a fun game."

Marshall earned its first bid to the NCAA tournament in 31 years by defeating Western Kentucky, 67-66, in the Conference USA Championship on Saturday night.

The Herd comes into the contest with a record of 24-10 and winners of four straight, dating back to a win over No. 24 Middle Tennessee in the regular-season finale.

In addition to the win over Western Kentucky on Saturday, Marshall's run in the Conference USA tournament included wins over UTSA and Southern Miss.

Saturday's win over the Hilltoppers marked the first conference championship for the Herd since Marshall defeated Davidson, 66-64, in the Southern Conference championship on March 7, 1987.

The last time that Marshall played in the NCAA tournament came 31 years ago today when the Herd fell to No. 19 TCU, 76-60, in the East Region first round matchup."
