  • Penny Hardaway to Memphis?

Good move or bad? This account is usually very reputable. Expected Tubby to get one more year, at least. The Ole Miss job being open may have forced Memphis' hand if they wanted Mr. Penny.

Eh .. that's a dangerous game to withhold a release. Schools have gotten crucified in the media recently for that. Not sure that would be the best long term move.

Schools have gotten crucified for not allowing a release, true, but most releases have some sort of stipulation about not moving to another team in conference.

I am very well aware of schools being crucified for not granting releases under certain circumstances. General not those that we are dealing with here. Unless A-Lo could establish extenuating circumstance such as a serious illness in his family or other hardship that would result from attending Wichtia State I would not release him to sign with any other AAC school. I would release him to go anywhere else.

Personally, I don't think it will be an issue but who knows.

Nah, probably would lock in Tyler Harris though.

I'm sure Penny will be able to recruit, i'm not sure he can coach.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

He'll get a bunch of 4 and probably even a 5 star or two...but yeah your right...can he coach?

He is a very good coach at the HS level. Doubtful they promote him striaght to HC. Perhaps more fotting would be a highly paid Associate HC position.

Is Tubby gonna hire his future successor while he has one foot out the door?

Because being told you’re not good enough and that you’re getting fired at a time TBD isn’t exactly a motivating career option.

Guess that depends on how much longer someone like Tubby really wants to coach ...

Tubby is 66 so you never know. I would take him to replace John Thompson III on our broadcasts without ever having heard him do any color commentary.

Either way, I wouldn't rule out Tubby getting the boot this year. Gary Parrish (CBS host and resident of Memphis) has been saying it's a possibility for months. He's also certainly alluded to Forbes being a great candidate if the job ever became open.

If true, goodbye recently fertile Memphis recruiting grounds.

Is Tubby gonna get the can because he can't even manage to recruit local talent or keep high end talent on the team? Because he did finish better than expected in the American standings...

Either way, I'll keep my eyes glued to the news when Memphis gets eliminated from the Tournament.

Listened to Gary Parrish today. He sounded like it's very possible and that Penny was already on the hunt for a staff help him. Parrish said it has a lot to do with the business aspect, season ticket sales and filling out the arena. Penny would help boost that immediately.
