  • Shocker Inflation

I did not realize it, but we are having run away inflation in Wichita.

My basketball tickets have increased in price by 16.07%, year over year. (This is the corrected percentage increase.)

I asked the ticket office person, if the increase in ticket prices was for Coach Marshall's increase in salary. The person said private donations were raised to pay for the salary increase.

So, a big shout out to Mr. Koch, Mr. Devlin, etal. :band:

Actual seat price (not counting SASO) only went up $10, correct?

Might depend on the seats. Mine went up more than that.

        Last year seat cost: $280.00

        This year seat cost: $325.00

Net increase in cost per seat: $45.00

% increase in cost per seat: 16.07%

Note: Please disregard my fuzzy math above.

I have to admit some ignorance here since "my" season tix are part of a small group of "investors" and I don't have the numbers our front man gave me. But I thought the seat increase was just $10 (row 31).

I seem to recall back in the mid-2000s that all seats (season tix) were the same price. Just different SASO donation levels. Is that not the case anymore?

I believe there has been a difference between lower and upper bowl for some time (several years.) The difference between arm rests and no arm rests, or based upon row, but I'm confident there are two different price points.

I think my seat only cost went up $10, from $265 to $275. Row 30, benchback on the "east" side. SASO had about an 8-10% jump IIRC.

Lower bowl Row 15 seats are now $330.

Factor in the now annual SASO donation increases and the total increase is rather dramatic, especially for the upper tier SASO / lower bowl seats. We're now paying almost $1000 per seat for season tickets including all items.

Honestly, taking the ticket price alone the per game price is around $20 and in my opinion, worth my entertainment dollar. I wondered if the increase also has factored in the liklihood that there will be more home games in '11-'12 than there was in '10-'11.

RDR - Taking this out on ticket office personnel is shooting the messenger, don't you think. Undoubtedly, these types of increases come from far higher in the food chain, with ultimate approval from the AD. If you don't want to pay their price, don't. They won't have any trouble selling your seats to an eager wait-lister.

Inflation mostly due to supply and demand. After the end of this season and promise for next, supply is stagnant (as it always will be) but demand increased, perhaps significantly.

I suspect I will be priced out of this market in a few years should the program maintain or increase its current level of success.

Here is my breakdown. Section 107 Row 29.

                      09-10 Season Donation $90 Tickets $275
                      10-11 Season Donation $100 Tickets $275
                      11-12 Season Donation $125 Tickets $285

My ticket went up 10 dollars and SASO 25 dollars. SASO increase of 25% is huge! Still worth the 410 dollars for 18ish games. 22.78 a ticket. I imagine we will sell out season tickets this year! :goshocks:

I'm starting to wonder how I can justify this years and next year will be bad I'm sure. I need to find much better employment or I'll be watching the majority of games from home in a couple of years.

                          2003 first year of koch

                          Seats $190.00 each chairback
                          SAS0 $100.00 for pair
total for 2 seats row 33 was $484 with shipping

                          2011

Seats $285.00 each chairback row 31
                          SASO $250 for pair
total 2 seats $829 with shipping

SASO is the biggie that keeps rising

So increase of $345 for the pair Yes I think people will be priced out of the arena if the trend continues plus gas prices to get to games now add to overall expense.

Has tuition really gone up that much in that time? Or are they funding more scholarships?

The gas price is significant for us. At current gas prices tack on $19 per trip for us. Having to leave early from work in order to not walk over a half-mile means buying dinner in Wichita. Tack on another $10-$15 for weeknight games.

Right now we enjoy the entertainment value. But now that I have a son entering WSU this fall (in music ed, where there is very little scholarship money available) discretionary funds may start getting tight.
