I'm also going to go on the record and say, even though I have absolutely no evidence to back it up, I too think we have a shot at Perry and I feel really good about it.
A shot yes. But this is the order I see us in
KU
Duke (now)
WSU
Kentucky
K-state
I think the only way he comes to WSU is if his parents really sway him to stay at home. Otherwise he will be going someplace to win a natioanl championship.
Have the past few years of the tourney taught us nothing? It could be realistically argued that we have better fan and fiscal support for our program, than those other "mid-majors" have for theirs.
I'm not making the argument that the likelihood of WSU winning a title are anything worth betting on or thinking about, but believing that a national title here is impossible is a little defeatist. Continued solid recruiting by 3G, plus PE, would make it a reasonable - albeit very outside - possibility.
Allow me to put my 2 cents in here. Coach Marshall and his Staff understand we can land players such as Perry, right here at WSU. The old adage that we are not worthy to recruit such high ranked players here at WSU is only for the feeble to buy into. WSU is very capable to bring in players that can make it to the NBA. WSU is very capable of making some serious noise at the Big Dance. Gregg Marshall is a solid recruiter and can be very appealing and convincing to potential recruits to become Shockers. We have done it before and we WILL do it again.
Many believe Perry will likely sign with KU. Could be, but I truly believe we are heavy on his mind as well. Perry could actually play the 3 and 4 here and become a Hometown Hero as his Family attends all home games. Plenty of playing time could be earned here. At WSU, he would be surrounded with solid players from both Wichita, the State of KS, USA, and Abroad. Look for this recruiting Season right now to be one of our best ever. Compound that with next Season's banner recruiting Season to be. Mr. Carr brought some "Good News" with him here by the name of Cliff. Sometimes, we have room and will make room to build a solid foundation.
In conclusion, I want Perry to do what is best for Perry. Of course, we the Shocker faithful, hope he comes here. Either way, I wish Perry the very best and know that WSU is continuing to improve each and every Season that Gregg Marshall has been here. I really like the Staff that Gregg has surrounded himself with. Because of that and the fact that we won the NIT, look for us to bring in some of the very best recruits we can fathom. The best is yet to come.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
Ricky, if you think Perry will go someplace to try to win a national championship, shouldn't Butler be on your list?
Seriously, what Butler has shown is that playing for a national championship is not the exclusive privilege of the "big boys" -- and there's nothing Butler can do that WSU isn't at least capable of as well. It's just a matter of having the right pieces in place, and then taking care of business on the court.

I think you misunderstood my post. I was saying that we are on the same level as the Butler's of the world, in most metrics. We actually have advantages they don't.
I did not think my post would give the opposite impression, but I'll take a look at it again.

"Winning national championship" are not my words.
Scratch the above. I now understand you were addressing the other Ricky.

Does anyone else remember a movie about Texas Southern, and how they portrayed Don Haskins recruiting? There was a scene where he was looking at a big time player that hadn't signed a loi yet. Upon approaching the player and introducing himself, the player reponds, "Texas what? Sorry coach. I'm partial to winning." Don Haskins and co. beat that player and his team in the big dance enroute to to a National Championship. Take from it what you will, it serves many lessons for both fan and player.
