  • Marshall Auction

Biggest crowd of all time. Food set up in the concourse, long lines everywhere.

I'll be interested to see where the numbers end up, but if I remember correctly, around 450-500 was the high water mark previously attendance wise.

I speculate the new record is in the 750 range. There was no free space in the Preferred Health Gym. Tons of silent auction merchandise, some really cool, some mundane, 2 KU related items annoying.

Last year I seem to remember the live auction being tepid....not this year. Big dollars dropped on big items. Again, my memory seems to lead to me to a $110k number for money raised previously. They had to crush that last night.

RKO was fantastic. Food good. Drinks very good. Video montage of some of the TV games during the season ran on the big screen all night.

I will never tire of the great staff Gregg has assembled. You're just not going to find better people than Chris, Greg, Dana and the support staff, not to mention Gregg himself.

Anyone else go (I know some of you did)? Thoughts of things you liked or didn't like?

I always like things to improve from year to year and for popular items to evolve and expand. The balloon pop kiosk had a line all night. They could have had 2 of those.

I forgot what they were selling for $500/couple, but 20 of those went in no time at all. They added 5 more and they went in about 30 seconds. That seemed to be a popular item.

Water and tea pitchers on the table would have been appreciated, especially with the long lines at the drink booths. I understand wanting to get the bidders lubed up, but even drunk patrons get thirsty.

All in all, a very fun evening.

My wife, my youngest daughter, her husband and myself went and had a blast. Seen a lot of old friends and made some new ones.

My Daughter won a banner (that used to hang in Koch) for her husband which went over well.

Doc pretty much nailed everything so I can't add much other than we had a great time and look forward to the next one.

I think it was a dinner with everything being served etc by the staff and players.

I would hate to know the amount I would part with if they offered this at the Volleyball function.

I heard someone say last night that there were 950 tickets sold.

Outstanding night. Doc pretty well nailed down the festivities.

Dropped a couple hundred on things. The live auction items went for unbelievable prices.

Good for Gregg Marshall and good for the basketball program.

            Glad I participated.

Yes, Doc nailed it. We especially enjoyed talking with Dana Ford and Greg Heiar. Dana is a tremendous young man who is really thrilled to be reunited with Coach Marshall. Greg is absolutely dynamic. He is the kind of salesman who will certainly bring in some great recruits. He talked about how most people believe it was his association with Coach Jans that brought him here, but says that he has wanted to learn from Coach Marshall ever since he first met him. He seemed to be as excited as a person can be. He also talked about how anybody who cannot sell the WSU athmosphere should get out of the industry. Also, a recruiter should easily be able to recruit NBA type players to a place like WSU.

We loved visiting with Coach Marshall too. He asked if we had talked to the new hires and we assured him that we had. He said "we're going to get some PLAYERS!" He is really excited to have both coaches.

Let me just say that I'm really excited about the future.

I may print out this thread and give it to my wife, since she's on the committee and I'm sure they would enjoy some feedback. They tried out a computerized inventory management and check-out software package. I think it went well enough, especially since it was all new to them.

If the $500 per couple event was the same as in the past, it's a dinner with the team and coaches, served by the players, all at a booster's house. It was hard to hear some of the live auction proceedings so I'm not sure if the details were the same this year.

Last year's dollar figure to beat was, I believe, $194K. I heard early this evening that $205 was the number at this early juncture. Way to go Shocker fans!!!

There were no lines at the north side stations...which there had been the way I felt this morning.

Yes -- the auction has come a LONG way from the basement at Terradyne... I think that first year there were less than 200 people in the room. Nice to see what dedicated volunteers and staff can do! :D

I believe they were down from last year
Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.
