  • Greg Heiar to complete WSU staff

Heiar was Clevin Hannah's coach at Chipola, I believe.

Should have a great in with southern JUCOs.

@DanWolken: Southern Miss asst Greg Heiar going to Wichita St could have big impact on USM. Heiar had been getting good players thru his Juco connects.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Ah, we are becoming a technology savvy coaching staff, but going backwards...

3G, now 2G. Come on, its time to get 4G in Wichita.

Sounds like a great hire. Clevin and many others have had great things to say about Coach Haier.

        Welcome aboard.

A little better bio of Coach Heiar:

He served under Coach Jans for a year:

Another bio for Heiar while at Chipola. Note the extensive connections to Coach Jans:

            - "At Kirkwood Community College, he earned second-team All-Region honors after leading his team to the National Tournament for the first time in school history. Heiar helped to guide his team to a conference championship and an overall 25-10 record. He was also captain of Chris Jans’ first team at Kirkwood."

            - "The 31 year-old Heiar served one season as top assistant to former Chipola College head coach Chris Jans. Heiar played an enormous part in the Indian’s 2004 season, which included a Panhandle Conference Championship and FCCAA State Tournament Championship. The Indians then finished in sixth place at the National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, with an impressive 32-5 overall record, and 11-1 in conference play."

I like the juco connection. If it's good enough for a hall-of-famer like Eddie Sutton when he was at Oklahoma State..

I wonder if Keith DeWitt is still happy that he picked Southern Miss.

USM fans aren't happy and they also wonder about DeWitt.

Sounds like we got a winner.

It is really looking like when 3G leaves Jans will be our next head coach keeping all the remaining assistances. Making it a very smooth and successful transition. Simply brilliant plan.

I hope it works out. Sounds like we have two guys now with big JUCO connections and a young assistant who we don't know what kind of connections he has. I'll feel better when I learn more.

Kid sounds like an up-and-comer. Yep, just a touch concerned about the juco thing. Did you look at their recruits? Course, maybe they are trying to get the ship righted down there. I also had the thought about Jans looking more like a coach in wating with this move.

Coach Heiar looks more like a linebacker coach than a basketball coach.

I am pretty sure this will work out just fine.

I will say though that it appears Jans has made quite a few HS connections in the upper midwest area so it's not like we have two guys that are primarily JUCO guys. At least I believe that Jans is our "in" with the Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois kids we've seen pop up.

When a coach is at a Junior College, he isn't recruiting JUCO players to come to his school, he is recruiting high school kids. That doesn't mean every JUCO coach has good high school connections, but many successful JUCO coaches do.
