He thinks it comes down to playing better defense on the ball. We are getting beat off the dribble and causing others to help off, leading to open people at the 3 point line. Our steals are down, and while we are only allowing opposing teams to shoot 38% from the floor, they are getting too many shots.

A couple of our players seem to have regressed since last year. I don't see how McDuffie's absence has made players on the court unable to stay in front of their guy.

If Brown isn't shutting down the other teams' #1 offensive threat and Frankamp isn't draining 3 or 4 3's, we can struggle against high-level competition.

I guess facts are "cop outs" to you. I also didn't say all our troubles are explained by McDuffie's absence. If I did, and he could explain all our troubles, then you would be gone.

Further, our "troubles"are not being perfect in December, without one of our best players. And by being "not perfect" means we're still really damn good.

We have some very spoiled people on here. Comparing to last year, Duff hasn't played. Shamet didn't practice until just prior to our first game. Reaves didn't play at all until practice began (no lifting weights either). CJ screwed up and couldn't contribute early when he was needed. This team wasn't in Feb/Mar. form when we started. Those are facts.

I think some here are undervaluing what MM adds to the defense. Back to @CBB_Fan's analysis of the steals. Last year, MM and DS played only 20% of the teams minutes yet had 33% of the steals. LS, CF, and ZB played 36% of the minutes and also had 33% of the steals. However, that is with 80% more minutes.

This year, no one is making up for the loss of DS's steals and MM hasn't play a minute of ball yet. LS, CF, and ZB are on pace to have about the same number of steals this year, however, so far, they are now playing over 39% of the minutes and that is with ZB missing 1 game.

Also, MM gets one of the toughest D assignments moving most of the other players down to a lesser player to guard. With his presence on the floor, he makes his teammates all better and allows for some other players to stay fresher (stronger) on both ends of the court.

Last year, ZB and RK played 19% of the team's minutes and scored 12.9 ppg. This year, they're playing 22.6% of the minutes (ZB even missing 1 game), but scoring only 10.4 ppg.

I don’t get ZB’s regression. I know he had some knee issues, but his offense has been horrendous. Guys usually get better year over year but ZB has been painful to watch. I know people like to talk about his defense and hustle, which is fine, but the lazy passes and poor shooting should are really frustrating.

1st half's of the last 5 games listed above have sucked. If the migraines and Brown's injury were the cause, doubtful they there would be the disparity between first and second halves. If anything. they would likely be worse in the second half?

It shouldn't take a whole half to adjust if your defense plan isn't working. Effort, however, may need a little half time motivation.
