We were the better team. We gave it away. ND took the gift.
Seconds away from having the WSU name up there with the greats of college basketball. That is what is the toughest part.

All of this without Markis.. If only he was healthy.

    • Marshall , top ten coach in NCAA somehow can’t ever beat zones

      • We had 3 more rebounds but a stat that jumped off the page was at the free-throw line. We were 4-5 and ND was 13-17. With the nice lead we had, I'm surprised we were not drawing more fouls while also fouling them so much more?
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I guarantee a WSU win, with 12 more FTs.

          • You learn more from a loss than a win, and it is better to learn these lessons in November than March. We honestly outplayed Notre Dame, a top 10 team, despite doing almost nothing the last 10 minutes of the games AND getting a screwjob by the refs. And all this without our leading scorer and rebounder! Heck, we essentially had to play this game with Shaq or Nurger because of ticky-tack bullshit. All that, and massive mistakes in the last 2 minutes just to lose by 1.

Fix the complete lack of offense against the zone, practice end of game scenarios, and get everybody back. We'll be a scary team. Again, a Top 10 team needed us to be down 3 players and to not play basketball for 10 minutes to win by 1 point. If we reach our potential, we'll have nothing to worry about.

Our guys are 4-5 year players. They should know by now. So sad when they get over confident.

          • Congratulations to Notre Dame!

No. ND plays average defense. We are a much tougher, grittier team with better depth and defense. ND's advantage over us at this point is basketball IQ, in game situational coaching, and much more fluid and skilled offensive players. Star players have to lead in these games. ND's two AA candidates combined for 41/11/5, while ours had 18/6/8. Brey outcoached Marshall late. Coach has to get better and so does the team. I know we all love the depth, but there comes a time when chiefs need to be chiefs and indians need to be indians.

And those of you blaming AR, thats fine but really you should blame Shamet and Shaq. They should have closed that game. Instead Ferrell and Bonzie did.

              • Disappointed that we let that slip through our hands. HCGM sounded upbeat on the post game interview, said he was proud of this team and had a lot to be thankful for, me too. Can’t wait to watch the replay. What did the talking heads have to say? We get MM back and we’ll be in great shape. Shocker Nation represented way better than any other school here. We fly out tomorrow, Happy Thanksgiving Shockernetters.

May they take their awards and sleep restless knowing that they were expected to win this tournament. Share it with the team knowing they were second best.

                • Tough to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like that -- lots of things had to go wrong at the end, and they all did. But at least this isn't March where a similar mishap ends the season.

I'll bet Reaves doesn't miss the front end next time a similar situation arises, but if the Shocks play ND again with McDuffie on board, and this game was any indication, it won't be close enough to matter anyway, Too bad WSU couldn't manage to learn from a close win instead of a close loss, but life goes on: time to glean what's there to be had from the errors, toughen up, and move on.

                  • An absolute gift to ND. What really hurts is come tourney seeding time, this was one of our few chances at a top 25 win. So far, committee will see: WSU record vs top 25 - 0-1. We will have possibly four more chances at a top 25 win. Three against Cincy and maybe one against Baylor (on the road). Giving this game away gives them the excuse to screw us again unless we go on a huge unbeaten run. You CAN NOT give games like this away.
This is what happens when you play not to lose. You have a 14 point lead at the half, your goal should be to stomp them by 30. Not try to hold on and win by 1. At seeding time, no one will care that our 80% FT shooter missed a front end and their 50% FT shooter went 2-2 with 2 seconds left. We will pay dearly for this.

                    • The basketball God’s choose to shine down on the Irish today.

Seemed they got every bounce, questionable call, fast jump ball, and banked three.

They had to have a series of unfortunate events happen to win, and they all happened.

Hopefully, the basketball God’s will repay WSU in kind come April.

                      • I guarantee Providence will move up in the Top 25 after beating mid-major Belmont on a miracle 3 at home, and WSU will drop 10 spots after losing by 1 on a neutral court to a top 13 team after dominating the game for 30 minutes. All with an 80% FT missing a front end and a brick laying 50% FT shooter hitting 2 FTs with 2 seconds left.

                        • WSU’s win probability was 91.1% with 17 seconds left after Bonzi’s airball according to ESPN. You cannot lose that game.

                          • ND led for a grand total of 22 seconds in that game. Unfortunately, one of those 22 was the last one.
