I and the other old heads were here during the bizarro episode. Strange days indeed...

They fired their coach - Eck was the asst. - they hired him - but rumor were that he undermined the head coach I believe - he did not take the job because of the turmoil. I believe that was it.

I'm sure nothing like that has ever, ever happened anywhere else.

Yeah, getting a call from Eck because of something I had said on an internet message board was definately....strange. I remember those days.

          Re:

Strange bird. I also wonder if he has some sort of vendetta against WSU since then. Strange to me that, unless I'm mistaken, we haven't signed one of the numerous D1 players he's coached at the JUCO level over the last decade...not to mention steering Taj Gray and Brandon Polk away from us.

It was pretty late at night, but don't recall if it was New Year's Eve.

WOW! He was at UMKC about 2 years before I got on this forum, but I do remember him either posting occasionally or people referring to him as if he was a certain poster. I always thought that was bizarre. Strange dude. I am in no way a public figure, but even I know better than to "friend" my employees on facebook or have any type of documented non-professional conversations...and he was calling people at home.

I thought it was a practical joke at first. But it wasn't. I was shocked. With me he basically just wanted to defend himself from some stuff that was being posted on the board and was reaching out to anyone who was "involved" in the discussion. It was pretty crazy.

Back in the day, the early days of this board and the internet when membership was a small pool of 35 to 40 folks or so in the very early days we had names, user handles, and the city where you lived. It wasn't difficult to track someone down. Remember this was before the proliferation of cell phones, in fact the technology was just beginning to transition from bag phones to handheld units in mass numbers.

In a Kevin Bacon sort of way, everyone on the board was one person removed from any given member. Many of us had served on campus organizations, etc. at the same time or were on campus at the same time.

A different time, sometimes I miss that time here on Shockernet...

There is something unseemly about this thread.

Does it serve a useful purpose?

It teeters on being edifying, but alas, falls short as per usual.

Add the way things were and how he reacted to them and those things will remain on his coaching resume, as a negative. I'm sure he is a great person. But he will not be in line for the the next HC. I'm not sure if with his backstabbing rep he would be considered for any of the Asst. Coaching jobs at WSU.
