I'm told it got "nasty" between Jim Larranaga and athletic director Tom O'Connor at the end. Both egos played a role in this happening.
    :(
Been following all this on your board. Still can't believe Coach L is going to Miami of all places. Best of luck in picking up all the pieces.
    Thanks. It SUCKS :banghead:

I am sorry if any program can recover from this setback so late in the game it is the mighty Mason. All the best in your search but stay away from HCGM!

Wow, that's really surprising. Mason should be loaded again for next year which makes you wonder why Larranaga would settle for a backburner Miami job. Surely, he had better offers after the 06 run, didn't he?

If it's just about money and wanting to retire there, then I guess it makes sense. But wow, really late in the game for this one..

Somebody will inherit a good team there next year.

        Best of luck Mason.

        ... No really, deuces.

Sad and seemingly irrational, at least from the average outsiders perspective.

Much luck to Mason in your coaching search. As one of the better non-BCS programs out there, I would expect you to secure a high-caliber replacement, even though I know from a GMU fan's perspective it's hard to see that outcome at this point.

EDIT: Thought I saw in an article (one in reference to the compensation of 2011 NCAA tourney coaches) that Coach L made right near $1M?

Are there any winners in this scenario?

GMU loses their long time and successful coach.
Jim L takes a short term job with no real upside.
Miami settles for a good but 61 year old coach.
Frank Martin gets stiffed by his hometown school.

None of this affects me directly but now I'm depressed. This is why I gave up soap operas.

Well, Jim finally gets the big payday he has deserved for a long time. That's a win.

If they doubled Laranaga's salary, that would be more than the $1.1 mill that Martin was asking for. Martin's market value doesn't seem to be very high. It's likely KSU can keep him a long time.

Considering that the GRCOAT could never get past a single win in the NCAA's and something like 4 players left KSU's program last year, that might not be a good thing for KSU.
