I guess we're relevant enough to still be sort of top-of-mind for some folks. Taylor does an awesome job. If I were to guess, he simply doesn't have time for a podcast any longer. He does local sports ON TOP OF covering WSU athletics. That's a ton. Mad respect for Taylor. I'd sacrifice not having a podcast for keeping Taylor around in a heartbeat.

He probably is overloaded. The real question is whether he's making the best use of his time. The Eagle could hire any writer wanna be to cover high school and other minor sports. Taylor could take Wichita State coverage to another level if he had time to devote to it. Then the question is whether there's enough of an audience to warrant such coverage. Or could he expand something like a podcast to cover more things that could pull in a bigger audience.

Taylor is the best we've ever had and we're lucky he's still here. If he has aspirations for more there's no doubt he can/will achieve that.

I have been pleased to have several interactions with Taylor ( i'm 100% sure he has no idea who i am on this site) but he is the very best at what he does... total professional. Wichita is lucky to have him

How long until Taylor Eldridge is in the transfer portal? He's way better than the Eagle deserves. As far as I can tell, he is responsible for covering all WSU sports, all high school sports, Thunder, Wings, NBC Baseball, Wind Surge, and any other team or event that comes here. All by himself.

I think he chooses to cover all the high school sports stuff. I think I remember him saying that he really enjoys covering HS.

Taylor E. Is the best ever and we are very fortunate for his excellent reporting.

My guess is either he has other connection reasons to stay (family and friends), he just really likes the nature of his job as it stands now, and/or the opportunities to make a living as a sports journalist just aren't as lucrative as they used to be. Look at the decline of staffing and such for ESPN, and especially in the print/online sports media. He might well be making as much money as he might elsewhere, I don't know. According to a quick Googling, Indeed shows average annual salaries ranging from the mid 30s to at most about 50k. But I see some other career sites stating 50k to 70k as the norm. From that, I would guess around 50k is the norm for a full time sports reporter. Glassdoor showed Wichita Eagle reporter salaries ranging from upper 30s to around 70k. It's definitely a field you are not going to make a lot of money in, but you get the fun of going to a lot of sporting events.

I wax nostalgic about the days of my youth when I subscribed to The Sporting News, and looked forward to getting its issue each week. With this 1980 issue showing a newsrack price of $1.50, I'm guessing I paid $35-40 for an annual subscription. That would be equal to about $135 for a subscription today, and I paid it then as a teenager! That was ten hours on the job to pay for my sports news fix. Now we want everything for free.

Congratulations, Taylor!!! Incredibly deserved. Your coverage of the Shockers (during very dark days) and all other area sports (man, I don’t know how you get to so many events) is incredible. I’ve read the Eagle for over 40 years and have never seen a better “sports guy”. Great job.

The arrogance Bob puts forward is astounding. I used to like his writings…decades ago. Now, he’s just blowing hot air and is far too full of himself…much like Dion. Oh, how the Eagle has fallen (and with hardly any readership). I think I read that their circulation is something like 10-15% of the local population. It’s really become an irrelevant paper (except for Taylor’s pieces) that isn’t even the paper of record anymore. There are so many places to get news faster and more thoroughly…without spin and more accurately.
