Toure Murry MVC Player of the Year 2010-2011?

Just as you Hatter have decided to list all the positives he has going for him, there is a nearly equal list of negatives to go along with em.

So let's see. He is going to end up top 3 all time in WSU history in assists and on the negative side he will end up bottom 3 in what? He is going to end up top 3 all time in WSU history in steals and he will end up in a second category bottom 3 all time in what? He will be a top 15 all time scorer in WSU history and will end up bottom 15 in what category?

Toure may have his flaws but there is no way that the list of his negatives is nearly equal to his positives.

Again, I don't want to get into it. I'm sure everyone knows my opinions on certain issues. Do they even keep track of bottom 15 categories? If they do, let me know where to look and I'll do some research.

As for some quickie stats, I found these for this season:

Toure led the team in turnovers committed with 99. Behind him, was JT with 48. Yes, that's right, 2nd place came in with less than half that total.

TM shot 28.3% from behind the arc, good for dead last on the team.

Not withstanding Brown and Richardson, TM had the worst field goal percentage on the entire team with 40.7%. Orupke actually had a better FG % than him.

Those are some pretty major categories. All-star players usually don't find themselves dead last in any of those categories, much less all 3.

Defensively he is outstanding. His long arms, height, and quickness allows him to make plays few others can make. He found his groove late in the season by realizing he can do more scoring off his tenacious defense. His half court offensive game needs some improvement. That's not a complaint, just a fact. If he had a reliable jump shot, look out.

Toure also found a floater from the short corner during the NIT. He's going to have a lot of opportunities to make that shot because defenders are going to give him that instead of a path to the basket.

Without the pressure of playing out of position, I expect him to be much more successful next season. Murry is a much better scorer when he's moving without the basketball, something he didn't get to do much until Ragland really figured out Marshall's system and the other players.

Murry is a good player, but turned the ball over way too much. Murry has a way of moving on the court that is pretty predictable, and I think the other teams scouted him pretty well, part of the reason for the turnovers.

It's time for Murry to evaluate his game, like Hatch did a couple of years ago, and see what he likes and dislikes about it. He needs to find answers to his weak points, and bring a much more consistent game (especially offense) to the court in the fall. He needs to work on his shot, revamping his form if necessary. If you notice, the ball is in front of him (his head) when he shoots a jumper, and not above his head and at the peak when he releases it.
It also needs more arc to it. He shoots his jumper like it is a set shot in the air. Like it or not, the team will be looking to Murry next year to be a leader on the team. Will he fill those shoes?

I suspect that Rags will be looked to more to fill the leadership shoes. I wouldn't be surprised if Stutz steps up as well.
