  • Props to Eric Sexton

No, we don't know exactly what he did or how much influence he had in Marshall staying, but this place would have come at Sexton with pitchforks and torches if Marshall had left. Just seems reasonable to give him a similar amount of credit when things go well.

He is our athletic director, after all, so we can assume he had a bit of a hand in this.

    That is all.

I pictured ADES on his knees, pulling at HCGM's pants pleeding and crying "PLEEEEEASE DON'T GO! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WILL DO TO ME IF YOU LEAVE! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!"
(Think Bill Paxton in True Lies)

I'm not even insinuating that is what happened; it was just a funny mental picture that popped into my head.

Agreed. Though the next time the napkins are folded incorrectly at a banquet it will be further evidence of his ineptitude...

Sexton really impressed me at last Fridays rally.

Thank goodness Wichita State finally won a meaningful national postseason tournament (after 100 years of trying)!

Marshall mentioned both Sexton and Beggs as being important to making his decision to stay.

            They both deserve props.

I know people in the department were burning up the phone lines "raising money".

                Hey Rosewood

That's funny cuz my buddy and I were joking about how we noticed ADES was wrapped around 3G's leg like a little kid as 3G walked off the court at MSG. That's great!

My guess is the ES has been working this for more than a year.

He is a methodical, deliberate individual.

I bet you are right. I am sure he has planned for this day for a long time and was very ready for it.

I wouldn't have blamed ADES for Marshall leaving. I would have left the pitchfork in the barn unless he made a stupid hire that didn't work out to replace Marshall. That is where he will be judged as an AD.

FWIW I like Sexton as a person and the man is good with money and raising it when it is needed. Those are things I have no worry about. It's the athletics side I am cautiously optimistic.

But good job coming up with an extension and raise that might have helped to keep Marshall for another year (at least)

It's certainly important for the AD to have a good relationship with the coaches. I can understand how ADES could be good at raising money. His true tests are yet to come, but for now, I've got to give him some props for holding onto HCGM. ADES: A work in progress but moving in the right direction.

ADES can start by hiring a new softball coach. I give him props though on the Marshall situation.

The softball program definitely needs some attention. Although you can afford to me more patient with the non-revenue producing sports.

ADES' first coaching hire (Colin Foster - Women's Tennis) seemed like a decent one. I guess time will tell for sure. Coach Foster did win a MVC Championship in his first year, but he inherited a pretty strong team. So it may take a few years to see if he can sustain a successful program.
