Did anyone happen to see the Parade All American Team in today's paper? Listed on the 4th team and committed to Wichita State, Jake White.
When was the last time we had a commitment listed on any list like this?

Congrats to Jake, see you in the fall!

Great, numbnuts KCShox will be posting this news on the NCST message board where they say Marshall can't recruit talent.

Nothing wrong with KC defending coach on their forum. I highly doubt the members of that forum have any influence on the the hire. I nearly posted a few times myself to shoot down some the moronic posts over there.

I have no problem with him defending coach Marshall. Here's KCShox's NCST Scout post:

"Shox fan here. I cannot speak about GM during his tenure at Winthrop. However I would like to add so information during his tenure here at Wichita State.

In 06 -07, he took over the program after Mark Turgeon left to Texas A&M. His first year with the program was extremely challenging. Prior to the season beginning, one of WSU's recruits died while on the court. A senior transferred to Wyoming and we lost two more additional recruits when Mark left. One followed Mark to TX A&M and the other went to a different program. The cupboard was left very bare for GM his first season and we only won 11 games that year.

GM has increased WSU's win total each of the four years he has been head coach. From 11, 17, 25 and now 29 wins. With the last two resulting in NIT appearances. We were disappointed not making the NCAA's this season but winning the NIT was a nice consolation.

Some people mention the lack of recruiting success with GM. I can tell you being a non-BCS program it is very rare we get 4 or 5 star recruits. We don't get the McDonald All-Americans, rarely did we get them before GM, and we haven't gotten them since. Remember, we are a small D1 program in the middle of Kansas in the shadow of Kansas and Kansas State, we don't have a football program so we can't oooooohh and ahhhhhhh recruits during their visit by taking them to see a 70K seat filled stadium during a football game. Quite simply, the top tier players want to join BCS conference programs, it's no secret. As an example, we recruited this kid from Kansas City, (the Alabama freshman guard Releford). For two years we were high on his list then he did well during summer ball and the BCS programs took notice. Once he started getting BCS offers it was done for WSU. He signed with Bama.

Lastly, some of you point out the lack of success with BCS programs. Again, I don't know what he did at Winthrop but at Wichita State, his overall record against BCS programs is 9 wins 6 losses. Wichita State has an extremely difficult time scheduling BCS programs. Rarely does any BCS program want to play us at home, usually we can't get 1 and 1's in scheduling, BCS programs want 2 for 1's. To point out how difficult it is to schedule BCS opponents, of the 15 total games the Shox have played against BCS opponents during GM's tenure, 12 of these games were 'forced'. Meaning, we met these teams in an invitational such as the Paradise Jam or Maui Invitational and the postseason, not because we were able to schedule these teams outright. In fact, I believe we had open dates up until late September because we couldn't find anyone to play us. Unfortunately, we had to get low-major programs in to fill in the empty slots which subsequently hurt the SOS and RPI.

Just wanted to clear up any misgivings of GM and what he has done here at WSU. Good luck with your search.

N.C. is filled with basketball tradition and know you will continue that.

I apologize if I'm being overly sensative. I didn't know KU and K-State "filled" 70K seat stadiums. They must have upsized recently. Also, I've never considered WSU to be a small D1 program. You can bet coach Marshall wouldn't say it and doesn't think it. I'm surprised KCShox didn't say mid-major ten times in his post.

I got the same vibe when I read it. A lot of the stuff he says is true, but it seems like he tried to slip in a shot or two at Wichita State.

The way I read that, it seems like he is being a little sarcastic. I still don't think there is anything wrong with it. But if you want to pick a fight with him, be my guest. I am personally glad he took the time to sign up and defend the coach and our program. Like it or not, in the context of what he is saying, Wichita State does take a back seat to recruits in this state. I don't like it, but it's just the way it is.

Would also like to point out that he never once used the term mid-major and in fact used the term non-bcs.

Geesh! I try and give props to our coach and some people get all weirded out by it.

And yes, a little sarcasm was added I'm sorry you didn't get it. What I was trying to convey is despite the fact that GM has not gone to the 'dance' with the Shockers, he gets more out of his players with less than other top name coaches in BCS conferences (IMO). It's no secret they have huge budgets, pretty cheerleaders at football games to flirt with the recruits, yada, yada, yada.

For a program that does not have all the amenities as BCS programs have, we do pretty good. Rank in the Top 75 in attendance out of 300+ D1 programs, great facilities, decent tradition, etc.

I will not apologize for my post. I am happy we have GM and I will stick up for him when the uninformed start chipping their teeth.

KC, some peope will nit-pick everything. The recent Paul S. article is another good example of people looking for mole hills.

Can we take this thread back to Jake White?

Maybe some updates on his stats for the year? Maybe some congratulations for Parade recognizing him as one of the top 40 players in the nation?

Does he look like a guy who could play the 3 position against a tall team?

This is the best news the Shox have had in recruiting in a long, long time, and the thread dedicated to that ends up getting hijacked for a very lame reason.

I'm certainly glad I don't suffer from the inferiority complex that persists among so many WSU fans.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I think White will do well at WSU. Do I think he could play SF? Maybe in the Big 10. He's not quick enough to guard 6-3 slashing guards in the MVC. Now, maybe if Stutz and EO are patrolling the paint, we could go zone and add White to the floor, but I think his future at WSU is as a Kyle Wilson/Rob Kampman type of PF.

4th Team Parade AA is a huge deal by the way. Dude would be a 4 star player had he signed with a Big 10 program.
