Sure liked the NIT write-up in the paper today, it was unexpected. And incase you didn't know, Dillon's NIT T-Shirts are only $11.95, a real bargain.

Do they say NIT on them now? Or just Championship Season and 29 wins?

The latter, Championship season and 29 wins! Still a good deal though.

Ja I picked one up, I like 'em. Just seems wonky that they don't mention the NIT.

Probably about the same as if MT would have been the coach of this year's team. Too many variable, with the most important one being different coaching styles and different players.

Perhaps you forgot, but GMU, after beating us, went on to the Final Four.

That's nice. You can be official point man of the "NIT champions sucks" brigade. Here's SB Shock when he sees an NIT Champion t-shirt around town: :-x Here's SB Shock when he sees the NIT Championship banner at Koch Arena forevermore: :-x

As magnificent as this team was, lead by these 5 Seniors, what about them Shocks led by 5 more Seniors this coming Season? Will we be new and improved losing such key players, or will we win the Valley and Dance? Stay tuned. Look out below. More recruits are being reviewed.

I'll keep reiterating: 2.5 starting seniors of 4 with significant playing time being replaced by 4.5 starting seniors of 5 with significant playing time. Likin' dem odds.

I would like those odds a lot better if this years senior mix was three guards and two bigs.

Anyway, would not be surprised at all if the Shocks' guards don't rank right up there near the top in the country this year.

Actually I have 3 people wearing NIT T-shirts in my house right now - so it not going to bother me. If playing in the NIT makes you happy - it is a 2nd tier program attitude, but good for you.

But I will still take a Sweet 16 over a NIT championship any day - this is not the 1960's anymore.

SB, you make the assumption that we would have made the S16 in your comparison. After having gone through the NIT experience, both as for the fans and the players, I'd make this comparison. I think an NIT championship is better than a one and done Dance appearance, probably a push if we had won our first NCAA game (if the victory was over a noteworthy opponent, I'd give the edge to the NCAA), and definitely not equal to making a S16 appearance.

That was a quality 5 game run, with one on the road and two in NY. It should be a very valuable experience for the returning players and something to build from.

You are the one making an assumption. I make no assumption about this team because they never handled pressure very well until Not Important Tournament. Obviously they couldn't win the MVC or the tournament so it would be hard to pick them winning a single game.

The original question was which was better 2006 (Sweet 16) or 2011 (NIT). I voted 2006. Another Shocker didn't like my opinion and wants to keep taking his little shots and be delusional thinking winning the NIT is more important than making it to the Sweet 16.

It can't hurt the program. Hopefully it will give next year returners an idea about how to approach the season and some confidence to actually beat somebody during the non-conference season.

You are correct, SB. That's what you posted and I was just remembering an earlier thread where there was debate as to which was better, one and done in the Dance or winning the NIT (about 3 games prior to us doing it).

At least I did agree about the S16 vs the NIT championship. ;-)

Here is a nice article about the Shocker's NIT run from Joe Ragland's hometown area (They are proud of Joe back there):

The 2008 Lahovich Award winner at West Springfield High School had five points and three assists in a starting role for the Shockers.
