2006 team hands down. That was a fun year the whole way. I can't say that about the 2011 team.

It simple as this - I cherish my 2006 season DVD. I won't buy a 2011 DVD (if offered).

Whether who was better talent wise, I think the 2011 team was better and that is probably why this year was even more frustrating because this team didn't play up to their level when they needed it most. NIT takes some of the pain away - but I will still always wonder what could have been in the only tournament that mattered.

I had been thinking about how those teams would do against each other. There are some huge differences in how they played, so it's hard to compare them.

Miller vs. Durley - That would be fun to watch. Would either of them be able to shut the other one down on D? I don't think so.

Miller vs. Stutz - Sorry, garrett. Maybe next year. Miller as a Sr > Stutz as a Jr.

Wilson vs. Blair/Ellis - That match up goes to Wilson on offense, to Ellis on D and to Blair on the boards. I think Wilson's shooting range and quickness to the basket gives him an edge in this matchup.

Hatch vs. Couisnard - WAR! BABY!! I think Cooz's athleticism gives him an edge here.

Murry vs. Ogirri - Game. Set. and Match. Bye-bye '06 Shocks. Murry would fluster and frustrate Ogirri to the point where he would be nearly neutralized. Ogirri wouldn't be able to guard Murry at all and Murry would be draining 10' floaters or going to the hoop the entire 40 minutes.

Braeuer vs. Ragland - Braeuer played under control a little better and that would be key in this matchup.

I'd give the edge to the '11 team. They would wear out the '06 team with depth and have a huge advantage in fouls to give. The '11 team would be effective at cutting off the inside/outside game of the '06 team. Braeuer would be left as the option outlet from the doubled post.

I would give the edge to the '06 team except for the Murry/Ogirri matchup. Ogirri tended to become ineffective when he was hounded heavily on D.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

And you will be seeing "2011 NIT CHAMPIONS" t-shirts around this city for a LOT longer than you'll be seeing "2006 Sweet 16" t-shirts around this city. It will be your duty to correct and point out the folly of wearing such a lowly t-shirt to the wearer of said t-shirt(s), SB Shock.

Simply put, Aargh, I would give the edge to the '11 team because of their DOMINANACE on the boards combined with their style of (organized) fastbreaking from it. This team regularly and consistently blew out other good teams. Of course it's close, but the '11 team had more great to nearly, yes, sublime games. This team was more sublime, the step above, in their style.

I look at it like this. WSU is 1 of only 4 mens NCAA Division 1 basketball teams to finish the season with a win. In my eyes, that is all that matters. Yes, we could and should have gone to the NCAA tournament. But I'll take a championship over ending the season with a loss, even if it is in the NCAA tournament, any day.

Serious question: How many people were at the pep rally after the Sweet 16 return home? Was there even a pep rally held at KOCH that year? I can't rememeber back that far.. maybe there was a pep rally?

1 of 4 that really matter, although I think independents like New Orleans and Savannah St. won their final games.

ok let me rephrase that. 1 of 4 NCAA Division I mens teams to finish the season with a championship. Forgot all about the independents.

Wasn't it the pep rally where Turgeon said he was staying?

Why not call up Marshall on his show on Monday and ask him if he would rather go to the sweet 16 or win the NIT.

So you don't think there will something better to replace them in the next couple years?
