  • 2 for 1

I don't know if it could happen but in a case like Wichita State having coaches that use the school as a stepping stone to more lucrative jobs could it be included in the contract that along with a buy out the school that he goes to has to give WSU a 2 for 1 with the two starting at WSU. If that school already has a full schedule for the next year then it could state starting the series within the next two years.

It's a good idea, but can you even enforce that?

Aren't schedules done or at least approved by the AD's office?

Yeah - you can't force another school to play you because they have your old coach.

It wouldn't be because they have your old coach, but a way to help schools like Wichita State schedule BCS schools.

I also think the departing coach would treat players, staff and recruits better (not saying all coaches don't treat the staff good) if they knew they were coming back to play them in the next year or two.

As for the AD having to approve a schedule, the AD would have to approve the hire and part of the hire would be the 2 for 1.

I would just like to see it attempted. Usually the buy out money is not a big deal for a university if it wants a coach. Scheduling is always a big deal for a university.

I'd even take a 1 for 1 and start there. Give our new coach one year under his belt before playing him at home.

It's a great idea, but maybe a bit too greedy, I'd ask for a one and one.

I'm wondering how this would affect our ability to get a good coach though. Is it better to have a high quality coach that may only stick around 4-6 years, or a more mediocre one that is in it for the long haul? Of course in a perfect world we'd get a great coach who thought of WSU as his dream job...who knows maybe that will turn out to be Marshall.
