  • RPI update

According to Realtime RPI, WSU's RPI rank is now up to 42nd. Call the selection committee -- time for a recount! (Villanova, Marquette, and Gonzaga are 48th through 50th, by the way.)

In all seriousness, what's the difference between VCU, Butler, and WSU? Simple -- VCU came up on the right end of a one-point game vs. WSU (and no, Ragland didn't foul, damn it) and made its conference tournament championship game. The Shocks did neither. And Butler, which had likely played itself out of any at-large hopes with a poor performance in the Horizon regular season that included a loss to some Penguins, got its act together and won the conference tournament. Simple steps. And Marshall knows all about winning conference tournaments -- maybe next year his guys will take heed of the importance of doing so as well.

Of course, WSU is already in a final four, and chances are VCU and Butler won't be by Sunday night. So right now it's time to celebrate, head for NY, set a school record for wins, and earn the right to celebrate some more. Kudos to the Shocks for a great job of picking themselves up, and thanks for the memories. But next year, let's build some new memories of similar success on a bigger stage.

But I'd take VCU's Sweet 16 appearance over any NIT championship any day of the week.

I hear that CAA teams are now offering money to ESPN to get a Bracket Buster game in Wichita.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

The CAA owes us some kind of check. Just think how much money we have earned for their conference. Between the George Mason final 4 run and the VCU sweet 16 run this year that is a LOT of money that the CAA wouldn't have if it wasn't for their teams beating us in Wichita.
