  • The Power 6 is now the Power 8 and other tidbits from Katz

The Colonial was the best conference outside the power eight. George Mason and VCU advanced and Old Dominion came within a bucket of moving on.

Jobs in the CAA are suddenly at a higher premium. The league has become the new Missouri Valley. Athletic directors should lock in coaches as much as possible (Shaka Smart of VCU).

No one is chasing Butler's Brad Stevens this coaching carousel. They shouldn't. He has made it clear his perfect fit is at Butler and that he loves being with the Bulldogs. Stevens is not going anywhere.

This Katz guy is a real gem... everything that is wrong with the BCS oriented press. Lets see....

    - The big east deserved all 11 of their bids even though they have once again failed miserably when given an exhoribitant number of bids. It doesn't matter that they fail again and again, they deserve all the bids.
    - How could the coach in a conference that has never, in its entire history, put in two teams into the tournament possibly consider being the coach at a Missouri Valley school. He should hold out for the ACC
    - The NIT better start giving away tickets... WSU could be in NYC.

    geeze...

A couple of commentators & 3 refs shared that sentiment about the NIT, I'm also kind of glad he's sticking with the Big East. Because he's in a minority. That sentiment being heard compared with the results, proves just how ridiculous the notion is. Perhaps (eventhough I'm not holding my breath) the winds of change are blowing.

I disagree with Katz on the Big East.

His point about Princeton was a good one I thought. He's an alum. To move away from your alma matter to Bradley seems VERY lateral to an outside observer at this time.

As for the NIT, that isn't exactly the way I took the quote...I think he means that Colorado, Kent St, WSU, and C of C will not draw well in the Big Apple (two of those four teams are going). Not that WSU isn't good enough to play in the NIT at MSG. He talks a little about bracket imbalance which isn't where I would have gone with my argument. If I wanted to talk about drawing a crowd in the NIT I would have said that maybe 2 or 3 Big East teams should have been relegated to the NIT instead of the NCAA. It would have made for better ticket sales as teams like Marquette, Cincinatti, and St Johns would have been very good NIT competition.
