  • Bye Bye Don Hall

Five things WSU Men's basketball needs to do:

This list does not include getting the students to show up, which is way past crucial and is so obvious, it shouldn't have to be mentioned.

    5. Fire the dance team. No dancing is better than that!
    4. Change out the lights. Expensive, I know, but it will create a better lighting atmosphere for the Arena.
    3. Keep the band moving forward. It made some progress this year. "We're not going to take it" is a hit and we need to build on that.
    2. Upgrade the schedule. Our fans deserve two or three great home games a year. Got to happen!
    1. Retire Don Hall. He is terrible, has always been terrible. Go to any venue that has an energetic PA guy, and feel the energy he brings to an Arena. It doesn't help that the sound in Koch sucks, but, Don Hall sucks
ball, and he needs to go!!!

I don't want a guy who yells all the time and tries to put on a show. I'd prefer a low-key PA guy.

Really? I've always really liked Hall. He's got a really effective sports voice and he knows his stuff. I'll always prefer "David Kyles for a Shocker..." with the crowd yelling back "three!" over "David Kyles for THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEE!"

      I hatehatehate that.

Bring back Ernie T (IIRC Ernie Townsley?)... he was the best. I think he moved to Lawrence in the mid 80's to attend Law School. Ernie's even called into the pre-game show in the past. Maybe he reads ShockerNet and will correct me. I've forgot a lot over the years. Maybe RDR, forevershockerfan or another seasoned poster can provide an assist here.

P.S. I don't have a big problem with Don Hall; however a change isn't all bad.

Ernie Tousley is an attorney with Ohara Ohara & Tousley here in town. I haven't seen Ernie about about 10 years now. Heck of a good guy.

                1) The dance team is fine, the cheerleaders are great.
                2) What's wrong with the lights?
                3) The band got better throughout the season, I'm excited for the future.
                4) I'm sure we're trying to improve the schedule, and we had the best schedule in the MVC.
                5) Don Hall is fine, trust me there are a lot worse.

It seems the overall tone of your post is nit-picky.

We just hammered a Big XII team on national television, enjoy the ride!

Fredster, I might add one more. Maybe we could pay a band to write and record an Intro song. Someone like RED, Breaking Benjamin, or Joe Walsh. Something clappable, no words, and give you goosebumps.

They need Light Covers over the lights ala INtrust Bank Arena to make starting lineups be more badass, but its not gonna happen at the chuck.

Don't just about 75% of the basketball announcers in the nation do the same schtick?

I mean, it's nice, but it's not job security.

I'm sure this post was just to make sure Don didn't feel left out. Everybody else from players to coaches to cheerleaders to the administration has been heavily criticized. Now Don can feel better about being part of the joy.

I like Don Hall as our arena announcer.

If you don't like Don Hall, then you would have hated Dr. C.K. Esten, Department of English, Texas A&M University.

In a deep throated, controlled voice, which was suitable for any Shakespearean play....

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to Kyle Field. Home of the Fightin' Texas Aggies."

                              5. Is it really that big a deal? Don't get me wrong, I'd like 10 super models to fill the down time, but the girls are good, they try hard and they wear black and yellow. Could it be better? Couldn't we all.
                              4. There's something wrong with the lights?
                              3. We have to be the only band in the country without tubas. I think that's stupid. They did get better. Get tubas. Please, please PLEASE burn a CD to sell. It can't be that difficult. Tell ME what it costs and I'll front the money for the first one. ShockBand knows what I am talking about. I like to play the band songs in the car to the games.
                              2. Yes, have some.
                              1. I'm not a big Don Hall fan, but I think he does a good job. I absolutely do NOT want to hear one of the those JOOOOEEEEEEEEEEE RAGLUNDDDDDDDDDDDD FOR THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEE!!!!!!
                              guys EVER.

Let me add one thing. I know how the bills get paid. But wasn't it nice to have absolutely NONE of that last night? Think that had any bearing on the crowd staying "in" the game during timeouts?

Last night was a game, pure and simple, and it was a beautiful thing to watch.
