I certainly hope we at least get an NIT bid. How low has the MVC dropped. Our regular season champ is in the NIT, and our second place team has to hope for a NIT bid.

And to top it off our single bid to the NCAA tourney is a 14 seed!

It is time to find a new conference. This conference has now officially dropped about as low as you can get.
I absolutely love our Shocks, and have followed and cheered for them, through thick and thin, for 40 years.
That being said, it is not the conferences fault. If we would have done what we needed to do, we'd have been seeded well and not wondering about our conference. Until we can consistently win out regular seasons or conference tourneys, that argument would have a leg to stand on. As it is, we seem to fit well with the conference.

Some are saying we need to get into a toucher conference. It will just make it harder to make the dance.

Maybe we need to get into a conference like the Big Sky or Big West. Those both have 9 teams, so one more in either conference would balance out the teams. The best teams in the Big Sky are Northern Colorado and Montana, while the Big West has Long Beach State. We should dominate in either of these conferences.

So if all we want is to make the dance, then we should be able to get an autobid every year in either of these conferences.
There has been a lot of props given to the Colonial this year. 2011 they get 2.5 bids. Over the past ten years they have gotten multiple bids only two other times, 2 in 06 and 2 in 07. They were a one bid league 8, 9 and 10. The point is that the Valley can get better. To do that every school is going to have to step up. No exceptions, no excuses. Reinstitute the pay for RPI plan and do it now.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

We did what we needed to do....the difference is that 14 losses gets you into the tournament if you're in a BCS conference and eight losses is too many if you're a mid major.

        That's the bottom line.

By the way, I'm already sick of hearing the BCS homers on ESPN complain about VCU and UAB and refuse to comment about Michigan State, Michigan and Penn State being included inspite of all of their losses.

I have to say that as much as I like Tad Boyle, I am really enjoying the fact that they were left out along with Virginia Tech...especially when only seven Mid's received at large bids.

            What conference?

It easy to say this, but look at the map. WSU is in the MVC and there really is no BETTER options [at least in present conferences]

Well, 8 losses and 14 wins against horrible competition will keep you out.

Personally I like the Mountain West, but I know there are some problems there (like we would be the only non-football school).

The other possibility would be C-USA. Either of these conferences would be an improvement for Basketball.

My first choice would really be for the MVC to improve. But after 4 straight seasons of being a one bid conference, and no real signs of improvement on the horizon, I think it is time to explore other options.

I love WSU, but we don't deserve to be in the tourney. We didn't do what we needed to do, at all.

I agree. But I do think teams like Harvard, St. Mary's and SWOMO should be in over teams like Clemson and USC.

It's no about the number of wins and losses, it's about the number of wins versus quality opponents, and the number of losses versus low quality opponents. That's why we are not dancing, because we did not take care of business.

Michigan, Michigan State, Clemson and Marquette all took care of business too didn't they? Didn't Illinois have a losing conference record?

Obviously geography means less and less when it comes to conferences.

The Big East goes from Chicago and Milwaukee to Conn. and Florida.

Louisiana Tech is in the WAC? Remember that New Mexico State used to be in the MVC. That was ok for Tulsa and WSU but awful for everyone else.

I think we should look at Conference USA.

The stability of the MVC is nice but if our in-conference wins don't mean more, then we gots problemos.
