  • Death Nail to Bears

VCU may just win the CAA.

If they do, 3 from the CAA may eliminate ANY possiblity for MoST.

Isn't the correct phrase "death knell"?

Anyway, looks like VCU will lose.

Depends on whether you want to ring a bell or secure the coffin lid.

          Learned something tonight.

I was thinking nail in the coffin, but you are right.

            Bares still aren't dancing.

Time to practice up on the chest bumping in the NIT.

The Bears were DOA for the Dance before they left the floor in St. Louis....

Gee, I wonder if Cuonzo is going to leave for a multi-bid conference...?

If you take a close look, they are in the same boat we are as far as the coaches go.

No, I don't think the Bears will be dancing (unless some bleeding heart on the Selection Committee thinks MSU has been treated badly in the past and decides to make up for it now). Their staff, team and fans have to feel as bad about that as we do about the Shocks not going. And no I didn't like the way several of their team members "celebrated" making a shot BUT I have no intention of kicking them when they are down. That behavior tends to come around and bite you squarely in the butt. Both the Shocks and the Bears will undoubtedly wind up in the NIT and we could meet again.

If MSU doesn't make the tourney it is nothing short of a crime. They won the Valley reg season championship with 3 losses. In a down year for the Valley we may not have one school that is as good as the league champs from the Big East, Big 12, Big 10, or ACC this year but the top 3 teams are just as good (or better in the case of ACC) as some of the teams in the 3-7 spots in those leagues that are currently projected into the tournament.

No way are the last 3 teams in from the Big East better than the top 3 for the Valley. NCAA tournament selectionion committee is a sham is MSU doesn't get in. Sadly, I think the NCAA tournament selection committee is a sham.

                        Window dressing.

Enumerate their good wins, then compare those to the last four teams that end up with invites. I think you'll find MSU lacking. But here is a little compilation:

                        Four best wins:
                        #61 WSU x2
                        #85 Indiana St.
                        #108 UNI

Record against possible at-large teams: 0-1
                        Record against RPI 1-50: 0-1
                        OOC SOS: 165

There just isn't anything there for the selection committee which says MSU belongs in the field.

You're right, they did shoot themselves in the foot with scheduling. That subject has been pretty well covered on this board. In my original post I almost went on to say that the only difference between MSU and those teams is that they had a shot at a bunch of top RPI teams AT HOME just because of the league they're in. MSU, this year, did not have that luxury. I'm just not sure if they should be penalized for that.

Only Marshall makes roughly 3 times as much as Martin, and our basketball budget is about 80% larger than MSU's. Those figures make a big difference come coaching search time.

Villanova just loses to South Florida in the first play in round of the Big East tournament. Now have lost 6 in a row, and 10 of the last 15. Count em as a lock. Figures...
