I was kind of surprised to see Les fired.

I know they had a terrible season, but I thought they would give him a break due to the injuries and his long time connections to the University.

He did Coach them to the Su-weet 16. However, the decree goes something like this. "Coach, what have you done for us lately?"

        Andy Katz Monday Notes
        7. This will be an interesting week at a number of schools, as athletic directors and presidents decide if buyouts are worth a change in direction. Decisions could be made on this front at Utah, Oklahoma, Arkansas, NC State, Georgia Tech, Providence and South Florida. If the funds can't be found, that can help save a coach and his staff for another year. But it would behoove some to try to get out before there are more moves made.

I like Jim Les. I hope he lands well.

I think the interesting question will be whether Greg Lansing stays at ISU if his team looks good in the tourney.

The hiring process for BCS schools is laughable. It seems to be "wait for a midmajor to get hot in the tourney and take that coach." This doesn't seem to work well on most occasions. Could it be that things that work well "at this level" don't translate so well to BCS gigs? My guess is that the heirarchy of BCS programs is more rigid. On balance the name on the front of the jersey doesn't affect a kid's choice between Coastal Carolina and Evansville. It does between Ohio State and Northwestern. Midmajor coaches that take these lower tier BCS jobs are compensated highly, but their time is likely short.

The rumor (and from what I can tell it's pretty well-founded) is that Maniscalco is going to transfer to Illinois and be eligible next year under the rule that allows graduated seniors to transfer without sitting out.

I assume this was in the works for Maniscalco's plans prior to the Les firing?

Nevertheless, this would be a blow to BU for next year. The only thing that might keep the Redbirds and Coach J out of the cellar next year (that probably won't save his job however). Also, do they know for sure that Taylor Brown will be able to play next year?

I'd take him for a year.

Taylor Brown had tests done on his heart yesterday, with no immediate results. He tweeted that he has more tests to do.

BU fan or not, let's hope the kid has a full recovery.
