I started the Cohen thread, you could have posted there. But I ask are the results any different? Sure WSU was. Provided a great deal more resources now than then, sure the players are involved in fewer court cases. But the 40 year season ticket holders are now 6O year holders, SASO has more $ and the conference is a travesty. Cohen produced the same results with lesser resources and no expectations.

That depends on what you call 'results'. If the only result is NCAA tourney, then I guess you could say that the Cohen era was about the same. But there's much more than that.
We have student athletes in the program that graduate, many with honors. That would've been hard to come by in those days. We win far more than we lose (not the case in those days either). There's pride in the program amongst the fans and players (not sure about he players back then, but pride was in much shorter supply across the board in those days). We have made some sort of post-season (regardless if it's the tourney we want or not) which is not something you could expect in the Cohen era.
On the top layer--purely NCAA berths, the two coaches are the same. That's the only similarity though.

but I can't believe all the talk about Marshall. Comparing him to Cohen. Come on and wanting a new coach.
Be real careful what you wish for.
It's the night of one of the most disappointing losses in recent memory. Some of this is expected. Cooler heads will prevail--eventually. Perspective is sometimes slow to reveal itself, especially when so much was at stake.
I agree though, some of it is a bit much. Venting can be a cleansing experience for many.
The Cohen comparisons are rather extreme and not comparable. Frankly, they're not even close.
However, those that refuse to put any blame at all on the guy making $750,000/year, whose job it is to get the wins, is just a big of a joke as this thread.
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

mike cohen's teams couldnt hold a candle to marshall's teams. i could sit anywhere i wanted in levitt when cohen was coaching. or thompson, or smithson. the fact is turgeon was an outstanding coach, marshall, is a good coach that recruits great talent. cohen was none of the above.

A good coach with great talent (talent level is quite debatable) would have no problem winning a very weak MVC.

Anywhere you wanted to sit? Really? Throughout those troubled 11 years, attendance average around 7,400, which by my calculations is about 70% capacity. I wonder how many games at Springfield were close to that figure in such a historic season for them.
I'm also not so sure that there weren't some teams of that 11 year era that wouldn't have given this year's team a run for their money over their last 8 games.
Didn't WSU lead the Valley in team assists, and many other offensive categories? That's good coaching up of so-so (read: overrated) talent. Marshall needs to recruit a stud, consistent scoring threat on this team.
Comparing Marshall to Cohen is a joke. Not many will pay attention to that foolishness.
OMG...the comparison IS a joke. I still quite painfully remember those days and am hopeful they NEVER return. Marshall...while he has his flaws...is nothing like Cohen. And while I question some of his coaching decisions, there is no doubt he has recruited a caliber of student-athlete we have not seen in 30 years.
Cohen did no such thing...even going so far as to relinquish a home game so his squad could get more road experience. Remember that one???
While Marshall has some faults, comparing him to Cohen is a joke...and a bad one at that.
