Thanks for being our Coach Greg. Hopefully we get 20+ wins next year!
I hope we get some sort of championship (MVC regular season or even better MVC tourney). 20+ wins doesn't get you squat. I don't want a Barry Hinson.

Regular season champ doesn't guarantee anything either (other than NIT bid), but at least it's a freakin banner.
I'm just thankful to have a better than average team to watch and support. So many people seem to forget that. WSU was a top 50 team for most of the year. In fact, most of the year they were receiving votes. To be in top 50 of 181 schools, I think, is success. Yes, they did fall short, and no, they didn't live up to their potential, but successful? Oh yeah. :goshocks:

      • Watching the championship games from other tournaments has opened my eyes. Other teams play. They love to play. Our guys think. They don't get to enjoy playing because they have to think all the time. I'm not happy with coach. We can't question him because his response is along the lines of "when you get a team you can do it your way." That doesn't answer my questions. Why did we let ISU go on an 18-1 run without calling a time out? Why are Toure and Graham going in to finish the game when neither has been scoring? Legitimate questions. No answers. I know, it's in the past. But I'm going to be hot under the collar until I hear answers. Not attacks on the fans questioning him. He gets paid a lot of money to take the good with the bad.

I doubt you would like the results if HCGM just rolled the ball out there and said "Go get 'em".

My bad. thats what I get for a quick google search.

And hamshock, to answer your legitimate questions, HCGM believes in letting players play though tough spells and GH has the ability to make things happen on offense, and both are the best defensively at their positions.

Call Coach Marshall on the phone and ask your questions. His number is 316-978-3252.

I am pretty sure he will take your call. However, I suggest you wait until the season is over.

I've got a question of my own for you, hamshock.

How many times have YOU coached a team to the NCAA Tournament?

I really get tired of those retorts. Apparently we can't question anything. What the hell is the point of this board then? To agree and accept everything that happens? No matter how poor?

I really get tired of all the coaches we have here on ShockerNet and in the stands. Let me tell you about the people I sat behind at the MVC Tournament...

They kept yelling "MOVE THE BALL!" with 28 seconds on the shot clock. They don't understand that the point guard is not just aimlessly standing around midcourt holding the ball just for the sake of holding it. He is waiting for the play to develop and for his teammates to get in position before he MOVES THE BALL.

When Ragland missed the front end of our technical shots (against ISU if I remember correctly), one of the guys shouted that Marshall should've put Stutz at the line instead. I told him that Ragland is a 90% free throw shooter. He turned around and said again, "it should have been Stutz." I used facts again to tell him that Stutz is something like a 75-80% free throw shooter (these stats were and are off the top of my head, so correct me if I'm wrong). All he had to say to me was "Stutz is better." Even when proven wrong by facts, they STILL think they know better than coach.

They yelled at our players to SHOOT THE BALL with 20 seconds on the shot clock and when they let the clock run down to about 10-5 seconds, they should have shot sooner. However, when a shot goes up and misses with around 20-15 seconds, our players are "idiots" and shot way too early.

In the Bradley game, we had a lead at around 20 or so with just a few minutes remaining in the game. They were upset that "that guy" (Derek Brown) was playing. I informed them that Brown is a senior and it may have the last chance for him to see the floor in an MVC Tournament game. They still couldn't believe Marshall would let him on the court.

This is the kind of thing that drives me bananas. Listen people, and let me make this very clear, YELLING AT OUR PLAYERS ALL GAME TO DO THINGS AS FUNDAMENTAL AS MOVING THE BALL OR SHOOTING THE BALL ALL GAME DOES NOT MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT BASKETBALL TO THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU. These players and coaches work their arses off every day during the season and the summer for YOUR entertainment; to try and make YOU happy. The coaches have to constantly leave their wives and kids behind for games, film sessions, etc. The players miss school for road games and are miles away from home. All this with the main goal to be successful and satisfy the fans. I understand asking questions respectfully and with the intention to actually learn something about the coaches' coaching styles, but a lot of these questions are finger pointing and accusing. I know coaches make mistakes, but Marshall has coaches us from 11-20 to two straight 25 win seasons. We're ALL upset and disappointed in being in the joke of a postseason tournament we're in now, but sweet Lord, cut the guy some slack.

Sorry for the novel. Just some things that have been bugging me.

I'm sorry, but hamshock's was one of the more calm, thought out critiques that has been articulated since the ISU game. If you can't even handle that, an internet discussion forum is not the place for you. Grow thicker skin, grow balls, hide your kids, hide your wife, etc., etc.

You can disagree with him, but don't use the "well, have you ever...." BS. If that was always followed to the "T," there would hardly ever be any discourse about anything.

Of course, I'm not telling you to do anything. I'm just voicing my opinion. That's all this place is about.

You're right. I guess just sitting behind those dunces at the Valley Tournament got the best of me. That and hamshock's post being in a thread calling for Marshall to be fired, which I understand hamshock is not asking for, but it's just the context I suppose. Like I said, if you have honest questions, that's fine. But I think Marshall has answered a lot of the ones that have been asked incessantly since he's been here, like the whole debacle over taking time outs. He wants the players to learn to play through those critical moments so they'll be prepared for similar situation when they don't have time outs to take.

Anyway, I apologize for misreading hamshock's tone. Again, I guess I just got used to hearing the mocking tone I heard at the tournament and it really got on my nerves.
