Marshall is not the problem. The players are. I've said it before and I'll say it again, when they can't even get it up with the crowd at Koch, they just don't have it in them. I know nobody wants to hear it but I don't think we fully see what Marshall can do with this team until 2112/2113. There's still some players that have to move on.

I don't know what to think. How does 23 go on such a downward spiral? 14 & 5 have digressed. I'm not in St Louis, but have had a lot of msg's from people there who are embarrassed. I wore WSU gear to watch the game. I'm embarrassed that I was photographed in this stuff.Phi Alpha

Let's be reasonable. As p**sed off as we all are right now and disappointed, he still deserves the respect for what he HAS accomplished, not just disrespect for what he hasn't.
The pressure will be higher next season than he's ever seen before I believe. Another NIT bid won't help like it did last year (when expectations were lower) and this year the NIT has already lost it's luster for fans, so next year will be worse. HCGM will either rise to the occasion and find a way to get us to that next level or he won't, and the stakes are far higher if he doesn't. How high? Who knows yet.
It's not all on the coach of course. Be he's the one steering the ship, so he'll need to reset the course a bit if we're to get past the big iceberg.
Personally, knowing what I have learned about HCGM and his personality and drive to succeed, I still wouldn't bet against his ability to get us over the hump. Just my own opinion of course.
The NIT doesn't get me going, but I guess it will be a chance to continue to develop some players we're going to need next year and years to come. Experience is good, and they'll get some. I suppose when Turgeon was here it took us 2 NIT trips before we made it to the dance. Hopefully that's all the times it will take us going forward.

It may not be 100% coach, but it sure as hell is about 90% coach
We may have a Barry Hinson (wins alot of games, doesn't make the tourney). Time will tell."He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

For those of you that want to fire HCGM or think he can't coach, let me ask some questions.
1. Who recruited Durley and what was he rated in high school?
2. How many times in the last twentty years has WSU gone to the NCAA tournament?
4. How many times has HCGM been to the NCAA tournament?
5. What was Turgeon's record the year after WSU went to the NCAA tournament?
6. How many NIT's did Turgeon go to before going to the NCAA tournament?
Some of you think it must be a piece of cake to coach these guys. You think they do exactly what the coaches tell them to do.
I'm sure HCGM told the players at half time to go out and commit five fouls in the first four minutes.
I'm sure coach Jans was telling Dometric Williams to fall down and then foul the guy he was guarding. I'm sure that was part of the plan. I'm sure coach Dollar was telling the guys to throw lazy passes that could get intercepted for easy baskets by the other team.
I'm sure coach Gross told Ragland to run fast down the coart out of control for a charging foul. All those things and more were pert of HCGM's game plan.
I'm sure this loss is all the coaching staff's fault. The players had no influence on this loss.

Or David Kyles firing up a hands in his face, closely guarded 3 ball with about 30 seconds plus remaining on the shot clock as he did in the Bradley game.

It just might be that Marshall is the perfect coach for what WSU can reasonably expect out of their basketball program; mediocrity as a mid-major team. NCAA's every 20 years or so, NIT a couple of times a decade, challenge into the semi-finals in the MVC tourney, beat a top 25 team every 5 years or so, no drug or alcohol arrests of the players, no murders of teammates, no bribes, and no illegitimate babies produced by the coaching staff.
I don't think this season is on the coaches or the players. I think it is on all of us fans who put our hopes in place of realistic expectations. We knew a month ago that the team would have to win the Valley tournament for a chance to dance, but we still talked about an at large. I never thought about what would happen even if the team did win it; probably one game in the NCAA's and done. I look back at the home season, and I know this team wasn't ready to win a big game, so why would I hope they would win two?
Here's a thought; sit the seniors in the NIT game and let the underclassmen play for a taste of what it is like. Next season, they'll know what the feeling was when they were playing in the 3 letter tournament and their brothers to the north both played in a 4 letter tournament.

MVC, you are exactly right; that part of my post was a little tongue in cheek, although maybe Marshall did know, and ultimately accept, the level of play that this team could produce. Maybe that is why he didn't seem to get overly animated about the results?
But I certainly agree with you on your coaching point. I'm just saying that we can't control the coaches, we can only control our own expectations, which I know in my case, were way too high for this season!

Some on here seem to think this is a video game where, as a coach, you just push a button or move your joystick and things happen they way you want. Maybe you're on a computer playing a game in "god" mode where you control everything. Coaching isn't like that.
These are all great young men, but that's what they are, great young men. They are not computer characters or robots that will always respond they you want.
We can lay on the floor, kick, scream, and cry all we want, but it will not do any good.

Our bench outscores our starters. This doesnt happen some of the time, it happens almost every game! That should tell you they are better. Hatch, Ellis, Murry cant score! Yet that is who he plays every game all game. I was at the MO State game in Springfield and I told my wife 5 mins in the game that his lineups are not right. You cant sub five guys at a time, they cant get into a groove. Ready for these senors to be escorted!!!" If you build it they will come ", Koch Arena
