  • Why Are Little Kids In The Front Row?

Can someone please tell me why there are children in the front row of the student section? Can we look anymore dub-t on national tv?

At times, I see one kid being rocked like he/her is trying to sleep. Don't think its ever going to be quiet enough for a child to sleep inside Koch Arena. Another kid is sitting down with the saddest expression on his face like he wants to go home. Seriously. The student section should be for students. Granted general admission seating is there but move up.

To make matters worse, are these parents dragging their children along to go wait in line way before the game to get the front row? Find a babysitter.

Pass the friggin torch on to the younger generation of Shocker fans who also want to root on the Shockers.

I think Koch Arena is one of the loudest and best places to play at. But our student section needs some work.

I see you missed where I put something similiar about this under a different thread.

What a great nail biting game I would not have it any other way! My only issue last night besides the refs, is our student section. I really hope they bring their A game to St. Louis and quit the embarrassment that it is currently. I am not talking about anyone specifically but as a whole you guys need some chants and some originality. Take a note from other schools conference and non conference and you will realize what I am talking about. I want actual students to get there early enough to take over the first 3 rows of any game tha tis my challenge to you. I have heard from enough people about 2 and 3 year old kids being on the front row on tv you have to wonder why people make fun of us. Quit bitching at the parents of the players but focus on the game, get loud, get crazy. Where is the confetti when we make an important shot, where are the signs, where is "Wave the Wheat", where is "these refs suck" (and by god get rid of "you suck....balls" that chant is old and has been going on for at least 10 years.

I won't say anymore, just get it together guys, you have such great potential!

They got rid of the confetti last year i think. They threw it up and it blew onto the court and that was the end of that.

Apparently other schools don't have it fall onto the area of play where it becomes a hazard.

Then just have the middle tier rows throw it, not the front 10 or 12 rows. That might solve the problem. No one wants that stuff on the court where a player could slip on it. Who knows, it might be that an opposing player would slip on his own with one of our guys right next to him having nothing to do with his slipping, and our guy gets called for the foul. Oh, I remember, that does happen (like last night).

Nice job, newbies, coming on board disrespecting families and using the "r" word.

A couple of years ago the chant "These refs suck" almost got the student section a technical so it is no longer allowed.

I don't think we should be doing the "these refs suck" chant but I really wish we could bring back the blind WU ref. I know we received a T in the 90's but it was worth it....

I have to agree with no small children/babies in the front row of the student section...Now, if it's a fat student dressed up like a baby, that's ok in my book.

I'm not going to say anything about most of the stuff here. I've said my piece in a dozen threads and it doesn't belong here again.

But I will weigh in in the confetti. I'm personally against it, but mainly because I am not fond of confetti in my hair. If there were a way to do it that would not disrupt the game, I'd be ok with it, but the potential for a technical on the crowd is too great.

So yeah. I have no issue with the kids in the front row. Let's fix the empty SASO seats first, then whine about the student section. Those parents do show up early enough to get those seats, and the kids are there that early.

Ah heck, I'll say it again... If you want to organize the student section, front the cash yourself. Flyers on seats cost time and money. Scoreboard promotions, like the ones we used to have during free throws telling the student section exactly what arm motion to use, cost money. If something doesn't cost money, it costs time. If you want to whine about it, yes you, with your mighty 7 and 3 posts, do something about it.

                        Thank you. And totally agree.

I'll have to apologize to the forum elitists on here that I made my opinion known when I don't have 1000+ posts on Shockernet.........

Hi, yeah, I have been on this board for 3 years, although my posts don't show it. I sit oh about 9 rows up behind the visitor bench and have been in those seats for 8 years with family. It gets really annoying when our students pick on the basketball players families, grow up and get over it, focus on the game, who cares if they act crazy. I remember being a student and how fun it was, but when I graduated in 2002, I realized that it is time to grow up, and contribute in another way and let the young people take over. Unfortunately that is not the case as people who graduated way before 2002 are still acting like they are a freshmen in college. Move on, seriously! Yes i was there for the infamous "these refs suck" game, and remember the coach getting on the mic and telling the students to settle down, I was there for the ball throwing incident last year and previous years which was uncalled for.

Confetti is not that big of a deal, okay so we can't do it, no worries, but figure out some other things to do that are positive and fun to get people into the game. Is pounding on the chairs not acceptable anymore either, geeze!

Memorable games that Koch shuttered with greatness

                          Providence
                          Florida St.
                          Texas Tech

Those three are prime examples of how great we all can be, where every single fan was into the game, it was fun, and the opposing coaches interviews the next day were literally comments like "wow that place is electric, we didn't know what hit us, and I could not even communicate with my players because of how loud it was."

One more thing that rally bothers many people and this is not directed at the students but when we are down and going thru bad times during the game I believe it is wrong for our fans to boo our coaches and players, come on give them the support we need, get on your feet.....oh wait I just realized that this is not Allen Fieldhouse and apparently sitting is appropriate for our games

Confetti in your hair, seriously it is not like it is beer or pop or gum, get over it.

Yes as a Shocker who does not miss any games myself even thru the bad years when most people did sluff WSU off, SASO members need to show up or get their tickets to the people that will come to the game. Nothing irks me more when Don Hall says its a sell out and I see 100 seats open with no one sitting in them.

Do all these old people that get to the game at noon not work, I seriously want to know what they do for a living because it must be nice. By god I hope they are not living on welfare!

Flyers cost a buck o five, seriously has anyone ever asked a sorority or fraternity to sponsor a game to put flyers down, or organize an activity? You mention time, okay, so those who come to the games that are not students anymore but abuse the system (most likely) have all the time in the world to get there and get front row you have time to probably organize something for the evening, and lets be frank the flash mob was not a well orchestrated thing at all. I give the 25 students out of 1000 who did it a B for effort.

Yes me with my mighty 5 posts, oh wait I have a job, a family, and a kid, I have contributed to WSU, I still do with cash and time probably more than you will ever be able to fathom.

It wasn't the students who almost got the technical, but the whole crowd because the the picked up on the chant and intimidated the refs. Had not the whole crowd picked up on it, it would have been more benign and the refs would have ignored it.

Frankly I think the "these refs suck" should be used sometime when they really do. It was a game changer last time it was used and if the crowd gets a warning it is only going to to get them fired up.
