  • Less is better

Like others on this site in the past I think its time for me to fade away except perhaps to read the recruiting forums. I started posting on here when I followed the team to Orlando and the Old Spice Classic and virtually lived to read the postings of others. With this latest melt down and fingers pointed I see things being posted that I really don't agree with and to tell you the truth am embarrassed to even be associated with. As some people have recently posted about the importance of winning and how sports teaches us life lessons these things are true, to an extent. I served 5 years in the Marine Corps and I can guarentee that there is no other service that the need for winning is not drilled into you at every moment. I flew attack aircraft in very close proximity to the earth. Friends of mine made mistakes and they are no longer here. College sports are games played by young men and women, should we get upset when they lose, sure but keep things in perspective. These kids will learn and don't have to die when they fail to perform to someone elses expectations or make a small mistake in judgement. That being said I wish the Shox all of the luck and I will continue to be there in support. I may from time to time check the prevailing attitudes but right now its just plain bad. Thanks to many of you for the insightful comments and humor but its just not fun anymore.

This is nothing new. In fact, it's been pretty mild compared to the post-Evansville carnage last year or the 2005 February trainwreck.

Every fan message board is manic.

Win or lose, passionate or not I think every Shocker fan of every sports realizes that these are kids trying their hardest. I believe the posters here on Shockernet are very proud of the men and women who represent WSU!
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

...and every passion must have it's boundaries. Some SN'ers claim they "hate" KU, KSU, MOST, CU, etc., but are not smart enough to realize that they must be allies with any & all of these people in life, whether they are your neighbors, co-workers, boss or pastor.

I suspect it is the youth on this board that try to float the discontent, and the sooner they grow up, the better.

Im not calling you out specifically.

If you have to ***** to voice your opinion you are a petulant child. As an out of towner i visit this board to get info about the team i enjoy watching. I avoid it for days after losses like this because info and rational discussion are buried within pages of immature bullshit. If you are that emotionnaly invested in college basketball get a hobby. Habitual masturbation would be an improvement and might even raise your spirits.

Done posting about the state of the board. Maybe posters on this board are just prone to hyperbole and the overreaction itself is exaggerated. Either way this board is very unpleasant at times.

So people can go crazy happy during the good times on an internet message board, but if things go downhill, the fans can't burn steam on here accordingly?

Most of what is said is in the "heat of the moment" after those stinging L's. Yes, if most people avoided message boards after frustrating losses, the internet would be free of the word "meltdown".

But that's not the case. People vent. That's one of the purposes of this place. It's not just all sunshine 24/7. If you don't want to see it, that's fine. Don't come here, as you advise, after bad losses. It kind of makes you look a little bandwagonish though.

Not personally calling you out either..

If you equate message board viewing frequency with being a non-bandie you and i disagree with what being a fan means. If i am a bandwagon anything its as a fan of this website. I cant stand irrational sunshine, i live in the real world. Irrational negativity isnt any more real.

My point is if you're a true fan that has been engaged with the whole message board thing, then you should be able to take the bad with the good.

What irrational negativity are you talking about specifically?

We just tanked another loss at home against a Top 100 RPI team on national tv and we looked sloppy at the end doing it. We just removed ourselves from the NCAA field (at the moment).

Most true fans I know are PISSED about it and rightfully so. If you aren't mad or pissed about Friday night, I have to question your true fanhood.

If you are still pissed about a game played two days ago i have to question what else you have going on in your life. I could care less about your opinion regarding my fanhood. I am a grown ass man. I enjoy watching basketball, i was disappointed with the outcome of the game on friday, and this team has underachieved, but i forgot about it by the time i jumped into the sack with my beautiful lady.

Guess we just have different perspectives. Shocker bball and message boards seem very important to you. Does that make you a better fan? Maybe. Im ok with that.

Oh and last i checked we are still in the hunt for a mvc championship, ill admit thats a silver lining on this cloud of a season, but its about aa good as those proverbial silver linings get.

Fever and chi, you have both spoken your peace. Let it rest, or I'm going to lock the thread.
