Here is the part where the monkeys start appearing out of very suspect looking crevices of the body. Sorry been around too many blocks to believe that one.
Last year's WAC was much stronger than this year's WAC. And USU's Strength of Schedule will probably be in the 200s by the time the season finishes. There is absolutely nothing that would put them in the discussion for an at-large bid any more than a team like Coastal Carolina or Belmont.
The committee won't ignore their RPI of 24, AP ranking of 25, ESPN/USA ranking of 24. Their current SOS is about 134. They do play at St Mary's tomorrow in their BB, which will be about the only loss opportunity left for them. If they get by SM do you really think they won't get in, providing they lose in their conference tourny??? Not likely...again insert the ugly monkey scenerio.
I couldn't agree more. Just being happy to be in some sort of post season play is downright pathetic. I'd rather go 1-and-done in the NCAA's then make a run into the championship game of the NIT. NO ONE freakin' remembers if you won the damn NIT.
For a program who ranks in the Top 75 in national attendance, has wonderful fan support, and pretty good facilities struggling to make the NCAA's year-in and year-out is awful. One damn tourney appearance in the past two decades! Unfreakin' believable.
For those who dwell on top-50 wins, here's an ironic note: VCU just cost itself a top-50 win by knocking the Shocks down to 55th (Live-RPI).
Of course, if the Shocks take care of business the rest of the way, they'll be back in. And as dubious a proposition as "the Shocks taking care of business" might seem, they do have the advantage of playing their final four (assuming they reach the MVC finals) games away from Wichita.
:(
I really hope we win the Valley tourney. I think on a neutral court, far away from Koch, would could still give a 3 or 4 seed fits.
I think a 3 or 4 seed will not have much trouble with a soft team like us. In big games we don't exactly have a great track record this year. But I would take that experience in a heart beat if it means getting to the dance.
1. We aren't nearly strong enough
2. We didn't go inside because VCU wouldn't let us
3. TM cannot shoot
4. VCU plays mean, we play soft
5. GH plays because BS is a sieve on D
6. the only reason WSU is in this game is because the VCU coach has never seen a zone defense and immediately started running the "clogged toilet" offense
Actually, that win in that environment could provide the Rams with a tournament, postseason jolt (see George Mason '06). Just what the doctor ordered for VCU. You're welcome, VCU.
I liked these two paragraphs, they give kudos to the loud crowd:
"The Rams had a lot of things to overcome in this one: a scoreless drought of almost seven minutes in the second half against Wichita State's zone; a crowd so loud that VCU coach Shaka Smart said he couldn't hear his assistants; ....
"There were a few stretches in the game where we could have hung our heads and let the crowd get to us," Smart said. "This is an unbelievable atmosphere. These people get loud. ... But we hung in there and battled back."

In 2003 Utah State was ranked 23rd in the AP poll on Selection Sunday and still got snubbed.
In 2006 Hofstra's RPI was 22 and Missouri State's was 24 (according to RealTimeRPI.com) and both got snubbed.

“You get confused about why we’re losing games at home and it’s very frustrating,’’ Shocker senior J.T. Durley said. “But we’ve got to realize that teams we play want to beat us in a tough environment. People like playing here.’’

well, with only one game left in his regualar season career, I guess it's never too late to "realize that teams we play want to beat us in a tough environment." :)
Goodness, I feel so much better knowing there is a reaosn for these frustrating home losses, and not that we are somehow out-coached, or not mentally, nor physically, strong enough. Sleep will come easy tonight, that's for sure! :)
