  • Why let Rodriguez have the ball?

Why not call TO after Rags free throws and double him? VCU has no one else that can make that play in 4.9 seconds and there was no time for a pass.

    Brutally amazing.

Everyone knew that 4.9 seconds left was just too much time for VCU. This team has had problems stopping dribble drive penetration all year and you knew that either the kid was going to make the layup or get fouled. He got fouled. The replay shows that Ragland touched his arm, if he had just kept his arm straight up and down I don't think the foul would have been called, but his arm was leaning forward and toward Rodriguez and that is all that it took. Sunshine Pumpers, please don't say if we win against MO State then we still have a chance. It is St. Louis or bust.

That is exactly why you don't let him get the ball. Lay off the in bounder and double him.

It's simply another case of us not knowing our opponent or refusing to exploit their weaknesses. Anybody that watches VCU a lot knows that Rodriguez is their only ball handler.

It is St. Louis or bust. Our bracket just got burst.

The BB is an elimination game and we lost so we are eliminated.

And a win over us is not going to be enough for VCU to get in, so it becomes a double elimination game.

The big winner tonight is another 7th place team in a BCS conference.

They forced him to take a bad shot. Didn't see a problem with that. Just got a bad break on a touch foul call. I personally didn't think we would get in even with a win tonight. I am going to give HCGM some credit tonight. He made an adjustment (what everyone on here seems to complain about the most) and for the most part the defense was good in the 2nd half. That play he drew up at the end was nice also. DK was almost a hero again.

I, for one was "pumping sunshine " after the loss to Missouri State. We still had ample opportunity to be an at large at that point. Now, even with a really weak bubble, it is Saint Louis or bust. On a side note, that was the best atmosphere of the year and I am sure it looked good on the deuce! It seems we play our beet away from Koch anyway.

I agree 100%. I said so before Joe made his free throws. You have to deny #12 the ball. We did not even make an effort.

I was also surprised that HCGM waited so long to go to the zone.

A lot of poor plays by players who let themselves get sped up too much. However, the #1 reason we lost this game was HCGM in my opinion.

No doubt about the at-large is gone and deservedly so. We do not deserve an at-large bid.

Our team made an adjustment once they saw and got used to the speed and athleticism of VCU, something sorely lacking in the Valley this year.

...not blaming the loss on HCGM, I just do not understand some of the decision processes when analyzing an opponent.

Face it we are at the top of the heap in a conference that is a shadow of what it was four years ago. The CAA is legit as a multiple bid league, the Valley is not.

I agree. I think Marshall redeemed himself a little bit in the second half, but that first half was brutal. After we went up 19-11, the VCU coach made adjustments and we didn't do anything to counter them until the 2nd half.

He did, however, do a nice job of waving his arms to pump a crowd that was already up and pumped.... :D

Just got back home. All the redeeming HCGM received in the 2nd half he lost, and more, by letting Rodriguez receive the inbounds. It didn't even matter if he got the first pass after the inbounds, there wouldn't have been enough time. That was flat unexcusable and when time ran out, he still had a TO to burn that could have been used after Smith FT.

That being said, from a general fan view, that had to be a great game to watch on TV. From a Shocker fan's view, it was gut-wrenching. HCGM didn't get out coached in the first half, he was out coached before he even stepped on the floor. At least he didn't have Toure on the floor at the end. For someone who has played point this year, he certainly forgot a lot he should have learned when it comes to good decision making with the ball in his hands.
