  • The season conference title is a huge mountain to climb

We easily have the most difficult road to a season conference title, by far:

    UNI
    - Tough games left are: home vs WSU, home vs Indiana State
    - Medium games left are: away @ Evansville and away @ Creighton
    * So they get their tough games at home and their medium games away.

    MSU
    - Tough games left are: home vs Indiana State, home vs WSU
    - Medium games left are: away @ Evansville, away @ Southern Illinois
    * So they get their tough games at home and ther medium games away.

    WSU
    - Tough games left are: away @ Indiana State, away @ UNI, away @ Missouri State
    - Medium games left are: home @ Southern Illinois, away @ Evansville, home @ Creighton
    * We have three tough games to win compared with UNI/MSU having two.
    * We have three medium games to win compared with UNI/MSU having two.
    * All of our tough games are away instead of at home.

Good analysis, but it is what it is.

You realize we don't lay a gynormous egg AT HOME against MoState, and the race is almost OVER?

We'd have a 2 game lead with 7 to play, 3 of which are near mortal locks?

I don't care how well Evansville is playing, if our eligible 12 show up and dress, they shouldn't beat us, period.

Anyway, winning it now will be that much sweeter if we can return the favors on their home court. I am not counting on it, but I expect it, and I will enjoy it if it happens.

I would remove SIU from the semi-tough category. They are a miserable basketball team.

Which is exactly why we are not in control of our own destiny, though we could wrestle it away with a couple big road wins. There are two games on the schedule we should lose (on paper) versus one for UNI and none for MSU.

I'm hoping MSU is beginning to wear down and we can get them at their place or maybe InSU can take them down.

But as it is, the odds are on MSU finishing first with the Shocks and Panthers tied for 2nd.

That UNI home loss is really hurting us right now.

Both uni and msu usually use a 7 man rotation. The end of the season may be the problem for both of these teams in that the legs just aren't as fresh. Would I prefer we didn't have uni and msu away, sure but I like our chances especially with the way our guys have played on the road.

You're talking about the Creighton team who's 1 game over .500 right now and has a legit shot at Thursday night.

Creighton will be 11-5 and no worse than 4th when they invade the Chuck late next month.

I disagree about us controlling our own destiny. All we have to do is win. If we win, we WIN (the championship). The only game we can 'afford' to lose and still have a shot is the Bracket Busters.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but the opportunity is there for us. Are we capable of winning every remaining game in the conference schedule? Maybe. Who knows? If we don't, then we have no one to blame but ourselves because we've had 2 opportunities to take care of business by season's end. We already blew one letting Mo State beat us at home. Their losing now gives us chance #2, and I'm certain we won't get another one.

I'd like to think we can do it. We're showing well on the road--with a kind of confidence that WSU teams haven't had in years, but our toughest road games lie ahead.

I wouldn't argue if you want to redraw the line anywhere you want.

They are in the "medium" category only because they have already beaten UNI once this year, so it's not that they CAN'T beat a good team -- we just know they likely won't.

It's also arguable to dump Evansville. However they have beaten Indiana State twice (BAHAHAHA!!!) .. anyway .. they have a _very_ outside chance of knocking a good team off.

If we win 2 out of 3 against UNI, MSU and Indy St and win all the other cupcake games we win the regular season title. Simple as that.

The players seem hungry to win, I'm confident that we pull this out and walk away regular season champions.

I think it's more difficult than that. If that one loss is to MSU, then you are most likely wrong.
