  • HS Prospects from Kansas

Our Hovpen.rivals.com pre-season selections on the top HS players to watch this season. Interesting that this "cold weather" state has two of the top ranked 25 players in the country according to Baseball America.

I have no idea of all of the strategy that goes into recruiting high school kids when the MLB draft can swoop in and screw up all of your plans, but I'm wondering whether it's typical that WSU only has one commit from this all-state team. Maybe not getting commitments from the cream of the crop doesn't bother Gene, Brent, and Jim since they're likely to go pro anyway, but it would seem like WSU might get more of the next tier on this list. Is that right? Or has this distribution been fairly typical of the past (I know that we have typically gotten lots of recruits from Oklahoma, etc.)?

WSU was in the hunt for several of these athletes who went instead to the Big 12. I can't really knock this staff as they do a real fine job of taking care of our Kansas athletes who can play and while they don't win as much as those on here would like them too, they do win.

He also has one of the top juco players coming in in Robbie Rea who was an in state athlete.

Compare lists and you should find that WSU is getting more than one of these athletes. They also have a good shot at the uncommitted kids and may already have them. I'm kind of behind on my research on who has and hasn't committed.

you also have to remember that some of the top players are going to play other sports in college too. a basketball or football scholarship covers much more than a baseball scholarship. that also plays a role in baseball recruiting.

Aren't we pretty sure to get Greg Brummett's kid Garrett who is on the list of Kansas prospects? Just on its face...

            Legacy

Interesting that the list of relief pitchers includes a Bluma from Southeast. Maybe one of the clan stayed in town rather than returning to the Tulsa area?
