Paul's thoughts on the lineup and fall performace.

just for fun here is my thought on the lineup.

    Grimes SS
    Davidson 2b
    Coy 1b
    Springer dh
    Obrien C
    Harbutz 3b
    Bayliff lf
    Coughenour RF
    Hall CF

It sounds like there are quite a few freshman that will have a chance to play this year and were impressive. I sure wish Hege could play RF we need his bt in the lineup and there is a log jam at his position...C, 1B and DH. If the pitching staff stays healthy especially the bullpen we could have a really good season. We sound a lot deeper then in recent history.

The toned down bats will be good for the shockers due to our team speed, defense, and pitching.

    Harbutz 3b
    Grimes SS
    Coy LF

Parker 2B/ Halbert/ Davidson I like all three in the line up Parker had the best bat in the series.

You think Flynn will be in the bullpen? I think he is the third starter but if he is in the bullpen he will be the closer.

I see Brian Flynn with the Driefort role. The man to get from the 6th to the closer. I like Chance as the closer. Just like the MVC Championship game in 09 He carved up the blue jay and it was fun to watch.

I kind of find it hard to project Chance S. as your closer when he is coming off a terrible season (8.76 ERA) and didn't even pitch in the fall.

If Grimes can figure it out, and springer and O'Brien can protect Coy the hitting might have a chance to be a little salty. With the bat changes and what WSU has returning in pitching this team should win the MVC.

Pulled ham string in the fall or he would have played. I just like to close the game with 93-94 mph heat, and a breaking ball that buckels hitters.

              Sossaman

Shock10, are you saying that Sossaman has a 93-94 mph fast ball and a breaking ball that buckles hitters knees? When he first came to WSU as a frosh, I thot he looked like a very good athlete, but his 1st year, he divided time between playing 3rd base and pitching. Last year, he was inconsistent in the bullpen. If you look at his bio, he was perhaps the one of the most highly sought after recruits in the class 2 yrs ago. Mizzou, AR, and many other big BCS schools were after him, so someone saw something in his potential!

I did look up his number in the Cape this summer. Didn't pitch much, but Chance S. had these numbers which look alot better than his Sophomore year:

                10 Games
                17.1 IP
                2.08 ERA
                17 K
                8 BB
                7 Hits

Chance had a 90+ mph fastball and knee buckling breaking ball against the blue jays in the 09 championship game. If you don't believe me just ask them.

Hopefully your out helping him look for it, because somewhere between then and the 2010 season he lost it. Let us know if he found it.

With G.S. talking about using Flynn as a closer that tends to make me think that they are not comfortable with him (yet). It would be a very good thing if Chance lived up to expectations and help solidify a bullpen that has been one of the weakest aspects of Shocker baseball the last couple years.
