Just got back fr om my last trip to Rosenblatt. This was the first time I have been there since 96, and the only time there without the Shockers. Really, is there a better sporting event on earth? The people are amazing, the atmosphere is awesome, and I for one am sad to see it move.
This was my 10yr old son's first time there. He is still beaming from the experience. He wore all his Shocker gear with pride, and received plenty of thumbs up from fans.
We sat next to an older gentleman on friday that has been to every game for the last 32 years. He keeps score for every game, and has a million great stories. He talked to my son about the early Shocker teams that were in Omaha, and some of the great games there. It was miserable hot, so he left in the 5th inning of the TCU-UCLA game. He returned for the nightcap with an old scorebook that had all the Shocker games from 91,92 and 93. It really was cool to see all that.
I have been fortunate to be able to see BCS bowl games, Final 4's and hundreds of other sporting events. To me, nothing compares to the CWS. I had the best 4 days there, and could have given a rat's ass about who was playing in the games (I just cant make myself cheer for OU)
It's a shame the CWS is leaving Rosenblatt. The old girl has some wrinkles, but is still a GREAT stadium. BTW, the older gentleman still has not gotten confirmation on where his seats will be in the new Ameritrade Stadium.
Funny note: they are always showing old CWS highlights and interviews from old players on their Rosenblatt experiences. Not 1 time do you see a Shocker highlight, or player, or even Gene. During our last game, my son asked why......The above mentioned older gentleman explained that this was still Creighton's home field, and they "Generally don't like WSU" He asked if when we are at Eck, do they show LSU highlights??? I had to snicker at that one.
Anyway, I was glad I got to share with my son the experience of Omaha and Rosenblatt for te last time. It brought back fond memories of going with my father in the 90's. The only way it could have been better was if the Shox were playing. Hopefully they can write a new Omaha chapter in Ameritrade Stadium. When they do.....we will be there.
