Up until last year, the Shox have played amazingly well on the road. Anytime you can go .500 on the road you are doing very well.

I am pleasantly surprised by these stats.

Take the last two years out and it's .596, almost 60%.

I talked at length last night with a guy who used to be close to the program in the 90's, on a daily basis, and he believes our problems are on offense. He said the pitching staff was #35 in the country this year, in the top 10-15%.

He is convinced that Gene can get this program back to the CWS, absolutely convinced. The change he hopes for is a full-time hitting coach. He rattled off the case of K-State who hired a pure hitting coach within the last couple of years. This year, KSU led the Big 12 in at least two categories offensively. I was convnced.

He was pretty complementary of Brad Hill @ KSU, who was reccmmended to KSU by Gene. But Hill recognized the need for a dedicated hitting coach. That move propelled them to where they are now, the next level. I don't follow KSU that closely so I don't know if that really happened that way, but it seems to make sense.

There is no doubt offense has been a problem and will continue to be a problem, but pitching is quickly becoming a problem.

5.86 ERA for everybody but not Cooper/Kelley/Lowell/Smith

Do you think he's going to get rid of J.T?

Ultimately that is what your talking about. I have been looking around at other schools. Each school only has a HC and two assistants (and maybe a volunteer assistant coach).

No, I don't think that will change.

My contact thought that Brent would take the HC job if offered. He mentioned Mark Standiford as hitting coach without me asking about it, Wykoff as a pitching coach.

All this was contigent on Gene calling his shot amd leaving before he acheived the mark as the #1 coach in all-time wins. He seemed to think that Gene didn't really care about that. All Gene wants, according to him is to win again, reach the CWS, and win another National Championship.

"It's just the kind of guy he is".
