  • Brian Flynn?

This was a subject touched on a while back, but it's worth a thread of its own at this point as the season winds down.

So -- now that we're looking ahead to the games that really count, after the end of the semester, what is the likelihood that Brian Flynn might be able to return and would do so? And if so, would he be ready to make a worthwhile contribution? Lord knows the Shocks could use another capable pitcher.

Obviously, if he can and does return it would use up a year of his eligibility for not many games -- but somehow his academic performance so far causes me to think Flynn isn't exactly planning to stick around until graduation anyway, assuming the pros have an interest in him before then.

In the previous thread it was said that someone called in and asked the question about his eligibility and the answer was there was no chance of his return this year.

      Thanks

Thanks, guys. If it's true that Kemnitz said there's no chance Flynn would be available this year, I'm willing to take his word for it.

If my eyes didn't decieve me Flynn has struck out 10 tonight in 3 innings for El Dorado.YES 3 innings.1 batter reached on a wild pitch so he just struck out the next guy.3 IP 1H 0BB 10K.I think the big guy will have something to prove next season. If we had only had Flynn this season.Who knows.

:good: and fortunately he just turned 20 so he is not draft eligible.

Numbers like those, together with his size might entice a team to draft and follow.

Bravo! Amazing what good coaching can apparently do for a talented pitchers development.

Brian Flynn managed to win eight games over three years in college...On Monday, he made it eight wins in less than four months at Lakeland.
There are so many things wrong with that and just an indication of how far this program has fallen.

                    Sorry, you're wrong.

It makes no statement about the program other than to say that the staff wouldn't hold one player to a different standard than all the rest. Flynn decided he didn't want to be a college student. All on the player this time.

So it says nothing about the current state of recruiting (specifically individual selection), player/student development or general coach/player relations? Flynn's problems didn't happen over night and no way this happens in the glory days. I agree to disagree.

Wow, pretty far stretch to try to blame the WSU coaching staff for the success of a WSU pitcher in pro ball.

To be fair, we'd have to blame the pro pitching coaches for lack of pro success for guys that were nails @ WSU but just average or below average in the pros.

                        Either thesis is utterly ridiculous.

More meaningful discussions about the program would be:
--The number of recruits and current players drafted.
--The pros and cons of over recruiting and should our coaches do it? Clearly, the draft losses, unexpected injuries, car accidents, etc of recent years have left the Shocks short-handed because they have chosen not to over recruit.
--The effect of the new bats on game strategy.

There are plenty of topics for analysis and discussion without trying to fabricate something out of nothing.

Anyone else catch the quick story on the news last night about Flynn? He's evidently doing quite nicely with New Orleans in the PCL, Miami's AAA affiliate. I would expect him to see some time in the bigs sometime this year with "the Fish".
