Believe pods were used last year and noboby cared for it. I believe it's just a double elimination format this year.

Go to the last page of this link and it shows the 2010 MVC Baseball bracket.

Now that the league is down to 8 teams, a bracket including all 8 teams is easy and far less confusing than the 6 team double elimination or the idiotic pod schemes. What I don't like is the fact that it makes the regular season far less meaningful. There isn't much of a bonus for winning the league, other than the privilege of playing the #8.

This is the CWS format, with the difference being the intent to play the whole thing in 5 days rather than 9 days as they do in Omaha.

With 4 games scheduled for the first three days, weather issues could really wreck the schedule. The good thing is that Friday is almost a built-in rain-check day, with only the 'if-necessary' bonus game scheduled if a team gets hot in the losers side of each bracket. The 5-day schedule will also bring to bear the possibility of Game 1 starters being used in the Championship Game - much better for the league's exposure on TV, IMO.

There will certainly be a premium on pitching. If a team gets to the championship game without losing, only 4 starters (3 if the game 1 starters is used). There will be complaining about teams over-using pitchers. There will be complaining about too many games in a short time. Teams and coaches will have to shut-up, suck it up, and just win.

Actually this format really gives the #1 seed a lot more of an advantage then the old 6 team double elimination format did.

Under this format, the #1 seed can't face a seed better than the #4 seed
            until the championship game.

That is a pretty good advantage that the old format didn't provide.
