I think he has also skillfully pitted player vs. player fighting for playing time and working with resolve to play as coached to earn more playing time.

• Baez looks like a different hitter after having time to be a spectator.
  Coy looks like he is sick of being a backup.
  Springer has realized that his JuCo numbers don't mean anything now.
  Lassley realizes that a better defensive catcher is available to take his time.
  Hall has learned that superior defense does not alway trump getting on base.
  Harbutz, Goro, and Davidson are clearly working on their games to get into the line-up consistently.

Mean Gene hasn't been as successful a coach in 33 or so years by accident. Maybe his methods and message are harder for the players to swallow in 2010 than they were in the 80's and 90's, but when and if he can get everyone on the same page, they are still methods and message that can lead a team to success.

Some of the stuff Gene does drives me crazy, but he's been pretty successful over the long haul, that can't be denied. Whether he has the stuff to get a team to Omaha again is still in question.

You sound like kind of a inside the program guy or gal, with you knowing facts about coach and player reading habits, and whether or not they care
what shocker fans think, say, or care about. So at this point I am completely offended by this program, don't care about me huh? oh yeah
