Looks like Butch and Sundance all over again: "Who are those guys?"
(And where have they been since the first few games of the year?)

Talk about a pitching slump -- the Chickenhawks have now given up 43 runs in their last two (!) games. By the way, Warren Nolan shows them with five non-Division 1 games this year.

      • This board is a calmer, gentler, dare I say "loving" board after a nice W over an in-state rival. I hope this squad gets on a roll now as the daily reading is much easier on the eyes after nice wins. GO SHOX!

        • Well what do you expect?

They came out and played nearly a perfect game. When you go out and play well people are happy. Fans, Coaches, players. Everyone.

With that said - I only got to watch from about the 5th inning on. Son had a game last night.

Mateychick looked good. Bats looked real good. Good things happen when you swing the bat. Defense looked good.

Castor didnt look good but thats okay. If you dont use it you lose it kind of thing you know.

          • Solid offense (2 long touchdown drives), good kicking game with 2 field goals and the defense kicked in a safety.

Starting defense was good, but backups gave up quite a bit of yardage allowing KU to put up a touchdown.

Hopefully, this proves to be a confidence builder and a springboard to better things for the offense for the remainder of the year. But consistency has not been a strong point for this team and obviously KU has some pitching woes right now. Still putting up 22 runs against a Big XII opponent is impressive.

Despite the offensive explosion, Toby Mateychick's perfomance may have been equally as important. If we are going to do anything in the post-season we have to have some pitchers stepping it up, including Cooper, Kelley and Lowell (hopefully). Not sure what Charlie's situation is.

It will be interesting to see they approach the Okie State game tonight pitching wise.

Speaking of which, I cannot find it on Kansas.com. Who is the expected pitcher tonight?

              • Two things

                1) When BBCue stepped up to the plate after being plunked the previous time I said to my cohorts "If that pitcher has any balls, he would hit Bascue again. Otherwise, watch out." Right on cue BBCue jacks one. Guess they should have hit him again.

                2) My cohorts were discussing leaving early and as they aren't diehards like me, I'm ok with that. At the time the score was 15 to 2. But when Coy walked to the plate I said "Ya know, Coy has power, had a monster HR Saturday and he already has one grandslam." But then they decided that if it got to 20 to 2, they would head out, to which I said "It is about to be 19 to 2" as the pitcher was in his stance. Coy made me look pretty smart when he ordered up some Salami. Thanks big J!

Ku changes pitchers again. It is still just the 6th inning.
Man, I told my girls when Johnny Coy came up to bat with the bases loaded and Shox already up 15-2 "If Johnny hits a grand slam, we can go home." After all, it was after 9:30 and a school night. Guess what, we got home just before 10:00pm!!! Heck, by the time we got to the parking lot, the Shox had scored three more times.

What a night! Springer and Coy plus several others played like MEN on Tuesday night. Gene's old habit of putting guys in the lineup immediately after having a bad game really paid off. Coy had some nice glove work around 1B, Harbutz played well, etc. Everyone was an offensive contributor.

Beating the feathers off the Jayhawks just feels GOOD, regardless of the disappointing ups-and-downs this season.

Time to get one more from the B12 tonight. It looks like Johnny Wholestaff will take the mound, so another 22 run outburst would be just fine.

Tim Kelley is starting, in a pre-determined split. Cobey Guy can go 3-4, TJ can go 2-3, Hoch can go 2-3. It will be Johnny Wholestaff.

                    • Great game by the Shox, KU pitching really sucks big time.

Run over OSU tonight and on to ISU Red this weekend.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

                      • Wow! WSU resurrected the Shox of old in a good old fashion a$$ kicking.
I hope it's even worse against OSU.

I would also assume that Clint would be able to throw a few pitches and/or pinch hit tonight if necessary. I am sure he would look forward to playing against the Cowboys again.

                          • That would be nice......I feel for Clint. I can't see him taking any innings from Johnny Coy for the rest of, his life.

I hope he can produce when called upon...great young man and yet another wonderful representative of WSU.

                            • If Clint could give us an effective inning or two every now and then on the mound out of the pen would be a very positive contribution, plus the occassional pinch hitting assignment.
