Cobey finishes them off with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Seven straight shutout innings by the bullpen in this series. Nice comeback victory against their ace.

Nice! granted this is against a now 14-23 team but still nice.

Bullpen really seems to be getting better! Maybe this gets them moving in the right direction.

Props to those that stuck it out through the delay.Especially my wife.Amazing how we hit a solid pitcher today but couldn't manage much yesterday against a guy that had a 9 era.Josh Smith tomorrow doesn't have to do much to improve on what Kelley did today.Hopefully he get's it together before next weekend. :posterwsu:

The relief pitching has done a 180, keep it going.

Nice to see a late inning rally against anybody.

                        OK. I'll take the heat.

While any win is a plus and 3 in a row will hopefully build a continuing trend, I'm at best, cautiously optimistic. What's been done that's that big a deal? Any gains by the pen, against this level of competition, has been off set by our two best starters. Coop fought through a tough night only allowing 2 runs in 7, but allowed 13 hits and Kelley just had a bad game. Even against Betheny, three pitchers were successful, three were not. While the Shocks did the important things, win all 3 games and out score the opponent, they have been out hit, for average, over those games.

If the Shox are to turn this season around, not only must they win these games, but win more often than not against better competition and on the road.

I'm very glad the Shox have won these games and hope they can get all the parts, starting pitching, the pen, the offense, and fielding, going in the same positive direction.

Your post is just fine. We are skating by this team AT HOME and against a team who were coming into the series 7 games under .500 and having an RPI over 200.

None of us are anything more than cautiously optimistic. Just enjoying some nice moments in a difficult season.

The improvement of the bullpen gives a glimmer of hope for sustained improvement, however.

while I agree that there isn't much sunlight to soak in. (I've been more negative that anybody here, which I probably shouldn't tout). I think I will have to disagree with a few comments.

Prove it on the road? Yes the suck on the road but rest of thier road games are valley teams and I think if they play descent they should come away with series wins. MVC tourney is in Wichita this year isn't it? or is it? I think it is can't remember. Well if it is and since it's true that the shox have to win the valley tourney this year to get in well......NO they don't have to prove anything on the road, lol.

Pitching up and down? Yes however Hoch, Guy, and Sossman have improved and I betcha they are relied on heavily during tourney time. I know one thing I will crap my pants if Grant sees any action during anything meaningful again this year.

Hitting has been up and down. To be honest I think some of that falls on Gene. I'm just some slightly overweight dork at a computer but sometimes his constant juggling and odd placement of hitters in thier line up baffles me. Regardless I think there are some big positives in the line up right now. Grimes for a Guy only hitting .260 is quite the leadoff hitter. Yesterday I heard a stat that last 19 games he was hitting like .315 and had an OBP of .500. On base every other time is GREAT! I think Coy is coming along. Preston is just doing the JUCO transfer struggle, he will get it going again. Lassley is actually surging again, I figured he would disappear. Bennett has been hitting well of late. Bascue is still hitting well and Gene is actually playing him more.

Point being is while I don't EXPECT much of anything the rest of the year. I do believe there is enough talent on this team to go to a regional and do something while there. Its just a matter of gaining confidence and will require the team to hit on all cylinders for longer than a game here and there.

As for next year I feel really good about the infield all the way around. Goro, Grimes, Davidson, Coy, COB, with Harbutz being the infield utility guy.
