he is good, don't worry about who was recruiting him. hell the zip code and perfect game kids all seem to do mediocre at best here.

If I remember right he hit .500 with 10 bombs for collegiate last year, granted that is a lower level of high school ball.

How is he hitting his senior year? Where is he ranked as far as in state talent?

Sound like he's got the type of attitude of past shocker greats.

You all know the question, can he hit a D-1 curveball?

          Time will tell.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

I'm always happy to see a Wichita kid want to stay home to go to school. Even with the "little added pressure of playing in/for your home town" I have always given these kids more respect for this and its a nice perk for parents and friends. GO SHOCKS

Collegiate assistant coach Mike Gehrer calls Coughenour the team's rottweiler. He expects Coughenour to show up as a freshman and be a leader who plays hard and pushes teammates to get better.

"They're getting a guy that's very tenacious," Gehrer said. "He's a strong kid that attacks the game. He never backs off."
Favorite lines from this article, as someone said above, sounds like a player we used to see at WSU.

Yes. Player leadership is a critical intangible that we seem to usually overlook in our mostly statistical analysis of current Shocker struggles. Ryan Jones would have just been a run-of-the-mill team member 10 or 15 years ago, but today he's one of our only players you could consider to be a leader.

The muzzle must be on or else dooshbag dax would of slammed this momma's boy for not venturing out to the lil' apple to experience the earth's treasures.

This is good news! I know of several local players that have recently been looking elsewhere first because of the "perceived" attitude of "we can always get the local kids".

I like the idea of a team full of local kids, with some toughness, pride, and swagger that comes from loving WSU Baseball. It seems like all to often we have been disappointed with the efforts/performance of those who chose WSU because it was THEIR "best option".

Way back on the old ezboard I was crucified for suggesting that I would take a player a half step slow for the major leagues, if he was able to properly execute the fundamentals, like getting the bunt down the first time it's attempted rather than fouling it or missing it altogether. I made the statement that #10's job was to win ballgames for WSU not to develop MLB players. If both happen great, but he had better be certain WSU wins games.

Hopefully, more local players will put some PRIDE back into this program and infuse it with some gritty toughness. I hope the staff realizes that they can no longer take for granted that the local kids will stay local, and will pursue them with the same zeal of the out of state "glory boys".

IMHO, this is a good signing! :yahoo:

Old article and then his rivals football recruiting page. Doesn't really have anything related to baseball but the highlight video shows off his athleticism. Was wondering how a 6' 220lb kid was playing SS, now I know.

More importantly, why do you care, and secondly, why does the "crazy dude" get a pass? Maybe you should be asking him why he cared so much trolling on an opponents message board with asinine garbage at 4 in the morning?

                            Maybe?

                            Thanks for caring, willy.

I care because it makes our little community of fans here look juvenile, as
for the visitor he does not represent us in any way so him being a juvenile
is irrelevent. That is my piece, I've said it and you can rest assured that all
