The 1991 team was in my mind the greatest Shocker team ever.

A clip of "The Throw" by Wichita State's Jim Audley that was the "deep freeze" play in this 1991 College World Series classic

Creighton also had their greatest team in the same season, dominated the All Valley honors and the Shockers beat them eight times that year.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

That's ironic, but I sent that same video to some friends/family who have attended KU and WSU asking them to attend the KU/WSU game later this month.

It does make me a little sad to remember how confident I was in the program back then, and how currently I'm just trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

Good times then, and sad times now...

That is a great video. I watch it about once a week and I have emailed it to several people over the last year or so. The other one that I like to watch is Clint McKeever's grand slam against Okie St. in the 2008 regional:

Mckeever hits a game winning grand slam against OSU to win the Regional Championship for the Wichita State Shockers.

I was only 8 years old but I remember that game very, very well. :good:

ShockerFever, you are just a pup, I was 41 when it happened.

That was college baseball at its finest.

I was too. It was the best baseball game I have ever seen. Although a very close second was the WSU-Texas game in 1989 (that one was great for a whole different reason). :wsu_posters:

The 1991 team was certainly one of the best shocker teams ever. Personally I would rate the 1982 team as the best, 1998 second and 1991 third.

But you can make a strong case for any of those 3 teams.

The 1982 team had a great offense, stole tons of bases and had great pitching. Even though they lost the national championship to Miami, I still think they may be the best college team ever (I have been attending the College World Seires since 1963 and have seen a lot of great teams to compare them too). Having said all of that the biggest knock against the 1982 team is that they played a lof of very easy games during the regular season to help build those great numbers.

The 1998 team was almost unbeatable (until the post-season when they lost a heart-breaker). They only lost 5 games during the regular season. That team also had great offense and some very good pitching but the knock against them is they didn't get to Omaha.

The 1991 team didn't have the record of the 1998 team and they played an arguably easier non-con schedule than the 1998 team but the Valley was tougher in 1991 than 1998 and they crushed an excellent Creiigthon team 7 times that seaons (we went 8-0 against them, but one game was a nail biter). The 1991 team also made it to the national champiohship game losing to LSU.

Like I said you can make a good case for any of those 3 teams, they were all great baseball teams, but in my book even with the easy schedule, the 1982 team is the best college baseball team ever (not just Shocker team).

This video makes me feel worse. It makes me miss we had that kind of team today even more.

This is a brief recap of the 1993 CWS. It doesn't seem like it has been that long since we were a national power. My how times have changed.
