INS going with a lefty today so will see a different lineup due to that if nothing else.
Here is what I would like to see:
1B - Johnny Coy (Preston is struggling - give him a day off against the lefty to think about it.)
2B - Walker Davidson (Like others I just don't understand the devotion to Will Baez - maybe he is a great practice player - if so, game slippage is an issue - I would like to see what Walker can do over an extended stretch.)
SS - Tyler Grimes - I think Tyler is doing much better since he abandoned the switch hitting experiment.
3B - Nate Goro/Eric Harbutz - Not sure it makes a lot of difference. Perhaps a pre-determined split to see who responds best.
C - Chris O'Brien - I think Chris is the better defensive catcher and handles the pitchers better. Cody's offense has fallen way off from his hot start. Cody could still DH against lefties. Let Chris settle in as the starting catcher. Make it his team.
CF - Kevin Hall - KH can remain in the starting lineup on 1 condition. He has to agree to bunt in at least 2 AB's a game.
RF - Ryan Jones - Ryan is about the best overall player we have in the OF.
LF - Bret Bascue - No brainer against lefties and if we don't start getting more offensively out of KH in center we may have to move Ryan to CF and insert Bret full time in left or right.
DH - Cody Lassley starts against the lefty. Preston Springer available to sub in against a righty if needed.
If our success this season against lefties holds true we should at least score a few runs today. We need Tim Kelley to be on his game today. He hasn't been nearly as sharp so far this year as he was last year.
Indiana State starter Joe Rodriguez (a lefty) is 3-1 with a 4.91 ERA. (I will point out that 1st game starter Jacob Petricka was 4-4 with a 4.35 ERA coming into last night's game and of course the pitchers Nebraska used to shut us down were from the bottom of their depth chart - so we may not want to hang our hat too much on the 4.91 ERA especially with the way the Shocks are swinging the sticks right now).
Tim Kelley's ERA is 4.25 so we don't have a particularly big advantage their either.
We need to score a couple of runs early as this team seems to hang their heads and go into a shell (especially on the road) if things go bad early.
