cobey guy was very good this summer for the Broncos, best curve ball in the Jayhawk league, bar none. I'm kinda surprised he hasn't gotten more of an opportunity.

Shox need to pound these kinds of teams too, and they did exactly that. Good win, and very nice to see Coy warming up the bat.

      Nice job!

Confidence boosters against NAIA competition.. That seems to be a familiar phrase for the last few years.

How mightily have we fallen.. :(

I just hope that our mediocre hitters can adjust from seeing the 83mph fastballs from today, to seeing 90mph fastballs from Evansville over the weekend. Seems like a small task, but nothing is too small for our band of slap hitters.

I will take any win we can get. More playing time for the young guys is good. Completely forgot about Guy, where has he been?

In the early years (late 70s and early to mid 80s) we played 30 or more of these "confidence boosters" each year (games against non-divison 1 teams). Even the 1989 championship team started the season (after a loss at Arkansas) with about a dozen of these "confidence booster" games.

In recent years we have all but eliminated these "confidence booster" games except for a few a year (1 to 4) as make up games for games that get weathered out.

Our non-conference schedule over the last few years is much stronger than it used to be. :wsu_posters:

you could schedule those games and put some harder games on the schedule back then. they were allowed up to like 80-90 games then while they're are allowed only 50-60 (i forget the actual number) now. i think that change hurts too. best way to get better is to play.

edit: their to they're (the internet is ruining my grammar and spelling)

Today the limit is 56 games per year. Back in the 70s and 80s I don't think there was any limit, but most of the time our regular season games were in the 60s. There were some exceptions, in 1985 we played 80 regular season games. I believe that was the most regular season games we ever played in one season.

I think the confidence boost tonight was important because it was mostly our young guys who have not seen a lot of time in the lineup that got the confidence boost.

Johnny Coy, Chris O'Brien, Nate Goro and Garrett Bayliffe were the hitting stars combining for 13 of the Shocks 16 hits, 12 runs and 9 RBIs. These young guys may very well have earned a shot at seeing what they are capable of against D-1 competition.

On the mound Mateychick (after a shaky start) did well as did Guy, Kemp and Caster in relief.

Again I realize it was Tabor, but still shows these guys have some ability. It was not our veterans leading the way.

Poor Garrett Bayliff, he was within an eyelash of having three windblown home runs last night. Instead, he wound up with a single, double and triple off the left-center field wall. I thought for sure that his final moon shot was going to sneak over.

Still a very nice game for him.

Considering that the SENIORS are not getting it done, these kids should be give a real shot in meaningful games. Yes, it was Tabor, however, every one of these guys needs to see more than occasional PT in conference and significant mid-week games.
