  • This Program Has Officially Fallen

I took a week off from this board to take a breather, reflect, and follow the team from a bit farther away, taking a peek in the paper each day for a game score.

I decided to watch the game tonight and it has become obvious that this program is on the slide and is getting worse by the minute.

Watch a game, like tonight, and don't tell me you can't go through a 30 minute stretch without cringing. The defense is garbage. The pitching (ESPECIALLY relief) is atrocious. The hitting flat out sucks. The 3 runs scored so far were mainly thanks to the KSU free passes given to us.

A change needs to occur in some form or another. I'm not quite sure where or how it should be made but it needs to be made sooner rather than later. I absolutely can't stand to watch such lacking fundamental baseball. I can't stand watching fans get overhyped by a team that skates by a horrible Valley team like Bradley, gets a false sense of hope, and then watches it go into the mudhole during the midweek.

4 days at the end of May is all that matters for the SECOND straight year in a row. If we get lucky there, it's yet another No.4 seed in a regional that is not at Eck Stadium.

For all the sunshine pumpers out there, I hope you watched the game tonight and realize that this isn't 1989 anymore. A once solid staple to the spring is now nothing but a mediocre program that tries to hinge on the past as much as possible because heaven knows, the future is in serious question.

How sad is that I'm actually looking forward to the FREAKING ROYALS?
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

Didn't you accuse me last year of having some kind of vendetta against Krusty, Fever?

One year is a pass. Two years is a trend.

I won't apologize for anything last year but I will for anything this year.

You did have the stones to start a poll last year though so I will give you that.

This team can't field, can't hit, and can't pitch (outside of starting 3 and 2 of those guys are shaky).

Baez makes errors, doesn't get sacrifices down, yet is one of only a handful who Gene wont give up on, weird!

I'm as disgusted as everyone, and I guarantee no one is more embarrassed than Gene. And I've said for years J.T. needs to go. But Gene has earned the right to decide when he will retire and not have his head called for like some Mike Cohen.

For that reason, and because I am thankful for everything he has done for WSU, I will remain loyal to him 'til the end no matter how ugly it gets.

P.S. I, too, am looking forward to the Royals, but that would be the case no matter how the Shox were doing.

im gonna join those who feel that there is something significantly wrong. not sure what it is, and hopefully the coaching staff can figure it out. we're used to a winner, and there isn't much patience for a team that can't hang with the big boys. wichita state is a great place for college baseball, and if the players don't fit, they need to go.

He's done great but if he isn't careful, he's gonna end up like a Bill Snyder and not go out on top. Who wants to end their run driving all that they worked hard for into the ground? That is essentially what is going on right now.

I totally respect the man for what he has done with this program. But when you lose it, you lose it. And in case you haven't watched any WSU baseball for the last 2 years (and arguably the last decade), then I should tell you that he's lost it..

Name the stadium after him (get rid of Felon Man), give him some title as chief of athletic fundraising, and find someone who can relate to kids.

Does anybody wonder why colleges haven't ran to JT to offer him a head coaching job?

Baez definitely needs to start ceding some playing time. I can forgive a lack of talent, but he just makes too many mental errors. I believe he has forgotten to cover 2nd base or screwed up relay plays more in the last year and a half than I have witnessed in twenty years combined of Shocker baseball. It is unbearable.

I sure wish Ryan Jones would show up against good teams. He is a great kid, but nobody sticks their head in the sand against decent pitching more than Ryan. He and McKeever need to show some leadership in big games or start sitting them out.

I did think Josh Smith was very good tonight. He has progressed nicely since last year, and I believe he will make an excellent weekend starter next season. He deserved a win for his effort this evening. The bullpen, on the other hand, is meat. But we all knew that heading into the season. I do wish we would see more of Remington Johnson instead of Logan Hoch. Poor Logan has turned into a thumber with no velocity and no control since his surgery. He is much worse this season than his numbers indicate (I would love to see how many inherited runners he has allowed to score).

I completely agree that Thomas needs to go. It won't happen though. No matter what.

This weekend will be difficult. Evansville is not terrible (unlike Bradley) and it is on the road. Dangerous combination indeed.

The last year and a half (44-35 record) have been WAAAAAAY below expectations, I'll grant that. But less than two years ago we were one game away from returning to the CWS (against a team using ineligible players).

And didn't we just all call out some loser troll named Vulcan for grinding an axe over how far the program has fallen? Wonder how he feels now? Justified? Or was it just not OK for him because he was a newbie?
