From the team i saw in the fall, this team has it all, power, speed, defense and pitching. Plus good leadership. If this team comes together people had better watch out. The sky is the limit.

This is very Hard which makes it nice.

      Options are GREAT
Where do you see Hoch, Fleming, and Muncrief fitting in?

I guess that puts the mid week spots to Smith, Kemp, Mcgreevey, Mataycheck, or Labrie. Too bad Flynn had to mess up.

Having Flynn available would have been nice but when one door closes another opens to create an opportunity for another player. I hope down at USA this week the Shox can keep the local announcers from announcing "the bags are full of jags". USA Jaguars. Geaux Shox

Top relief should be on the weekend that's where Hoch & Muncrief should be if healthy Fleming is not ready yet 2 more weeks I think. Hoch & Muncrief should ease in to it coming off injury. Right?

This lineup thing is fun to speculate but only one knows, sometimes it depends on how he gets out of bed. His line up can change at anytime. Even the players don't know.

I just hope that we play the best hitters and if guys who hit poorly last year can't pull out of their nose dives that we give someone else the chance because we appear to have huge depth.

Well, I have to change it again because it has been reported that Harbutz has won the job at third. Great effort by a walk on kid who wasn't recruited by any D1 schools.

 to Harbutz! He's a switch hitter as well... I think we'll be very happy with him. Local kid done good!

Great for Harbutz but I hardly think that winning the job means anymore than first game and first opportunity. I'd bet that we'll see multiple lineups that'll change with each doubleheader for a good while. Hot players will keep playing.

Curious... do you think that Gene WILL switch around the players that much once the season (finally) begins?

Gene almost always does quite a bit of juggling with the line-up, especially early in the season. He tends to go with the hot hand and has a short memory. If players produce, they usually stay in the line-up. Short slumps usually bring new faces in for a look-see. Also, by the nature of baseball and 4 or 5 games every week, small injuries might sideline a guy for a few games, giving a back-up a chance. If the back-up produces, he might become the starter.

The one difference this season is that there are A LOT of veteran players on the squad (much as it was 2 years ago with the Gillaspie, Dirks, Workman, Weber, Musgrave, Capra, Shafer squad). If Gene has confidence in the 3 and 4 year guys, he might stick with them longer if they're doing the right things on the field.

One more wrinkle ... Gene claims they're going to put the best offensive players on the field. I believe that is lip service/coach speak. I seriously doubt he will tolerate someone out there who is a defensive liability. This will cause line-up shuffles, too.

Its fun going back in time to see what was said. I said all along we were playing some wrong people. The facts. Hall, Baez, and Harbultz has 317 atbats for a average of 240 going into last night game. They have 77 hits. Has scored 49 runs, with 29 rbi's with 18 errors. I believe our defense in the worst in the valley. Goro, Coy, and Bascue has 140 at bats, 50 hits, 41 rbi's, 32 runs scored for a average of 350 +. They have made 8 errors. All with 177 less at bats. They are playing half the time if that. If these players rolls were reversed i could see us winning 3 or four more games. They would not be any worse on defense. Bascue has made no errors, Coy two, and Goro 6. In limited time. We could play the better defense in the late innings. Our infield is the problem. Plus hitting, and relief pitching. These guys are not going to lose you anymore games. Plus two are freshman. I believe Bascue in right, Goro on second and Coy on third is the answer. It will be more fun to watch. Facts don't lie. But who am I. On paper it should work. But you don't play the game on paper. The way things are going now just isn't working. We all want to win. This move i think would put us over the hump. Go shockers!!!
