  • Lineup

I love speculating on the lineup and batting order. We know pretty much how the pitching will end up but there is alot of depth and options in the lineup. What does everyone think?

    Grimes - SS
    Baez - 2b
    Jones - RF
    Keev - 1b
    OB - DH
    Bennett - LF
    Coy - 3b
    Lassley - C
    Hall - CF

This is a tough call it could be either Coy or Goro at third and there are tons of options at DH...OB, Engrav, Springer, Coy. Gene has alot to work with this year.

Does anyone know who has the upper hand on the mid week starting spots?

    1B - McKeever
    2B - Baez
    SS - Grimes
3B - Goro (Harbutz or Coy as quick backups if Goro doesn't hit)
    C - Lassley
    OF - Jones
    OF - Hall
OF - Coy (my surprise pick)
DH - Springer (but several right behind)

Starters above... don't have my batting order picked yet.

You think Coy can play LF or move him to right and Jones to Left? Do you know something we don't? What about Bennett?

        Hall - CF
        Grimes - SS
        Jones - RF
        McKeever - 1B
        Springer - DH
        Bennett - LF
        Lassley - C
        Goro/Coy - 3B (Harbutz if they don't hit)
        Baez - 2B

Caster/O'Brien will probably figure into the lineup somehow.

It is just nice to know there are going to be options off the bench when slumps occur...at least we think that will be the case.

I have no knowledge of mid-week starters but was encouraged to hear Josh Smith is pushing for the #4 job.

Certainly don't know something you don't. I just heard Gene is practicing Coy some in the OF... RF would make sense to me. He's fairly quick and he has the needed power potential at the plate. Goro is the best 3B, but I would think there would be concerns about his hitting particularly at the D1 level. That's why I think switch hitter Harbutz might be his replacement if Goro doesn't hit. Goro seemed to get a bit rattled by the heckling in the fall. Just seemed to me that Bennett was slow in LF in the fall... could've been just the games I went to, though.

Wow...Josh Smith huh? That is encouraging. Maybe it is just me, but I would have liked to see Caster focus on pitching. From what I have seen from him it is my opinion that if he focused on pitching he could be a great set up guy for Soss...but I'm sure Kemnitz knows a hell of alot more than me.

I enjoy reading your line ups. I know having the new indoor facility will make a great difference early on for the Shockers!

Score some runs, put a bat in Coopers and McGreevy's hands when they aren't pitching.

Don't get me wrong, I like Tyler Grimes, but is he a lock at SS?

He hit .097 in the fall World Series and I did not think he looked like he was really into the games.

Kind of going thru the motions.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

He was working on becoming a switch-hitter this fall, right? That could explain his poor hitting....

When they were talking to Jones on sportstalk Jones said having Hall on base made hitting alot easier since the pitcher didn't want to spend alot of time for the pitch to get to the plate bacause of Halls speed. He said all he looked for were fastballs. So Hall is the lead off? Oh I forgot...Can any of these guys hit a D1 curveball? :D

We will have to wait for Shirley Schmidt's scouting report from S. Alabama to find that out.

This is very Hard which makes it nice.

                            Options are GREAT
