This year we don't leave the states of Texas and Louisiana. Our out of conference schedule is brutal. With a lot of strong teams in the two states it is very cheap and easy to just stick around here but I can still hope.
We don't schedule enough Texas teams IMO. Other than TCU of late, I can't remember anybody else. I believe Texas Arlington was scheduled a few years back, but we don't recruit Texas kids so that may be the reason why we don't venture down there enough.

We currently have one Texas player... Springer. And, we have a recruit coming in next year from Texas as well.

As WSU Mom noted, one player on our roster right now. I've asked as to why but have not received a clear answer. Finances perhaps, or the fact that we do well enough in our own state and Oklahoma primarily that we don't need to. But from a laymen's perspective, it just seems to be a tradgedy not to.

Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Missouri seem to be our focus.

This is just my opinion but I REALLY like the fact that we recruit Kansas and Oklahoma kids with a few from other surrounding states. It is cool (I know the term is old but then so am I) to watch the Shox on TV like regional play or above and the announcers introduce to lineups and have all of those Kansas players on our roster. At least when they come from Kansas I have a general idea of what their hometown is like. I have more of a reference point with them than others from places like Irvine tx. Don't get me wrong if there are studs in tx that want to play ball at WSU and are BETTER prospects than Kansas kids then go ahead and bring them in.

I understand where you are coming from to a certain degree... University of Texas has ONLY Texas kids on their roster, but hey Texas is a huge state. Springer came to WSU via the Jayhawk League (El Dorado).

Texas does have a plethora of talent. Most in state schools have rosters made up of almost entirely Texas kids (Texas State's entire roster). The gain you could get from a trip down here may not be much in recruiting but it would be for strength of schedule. We are 30 minutes away from UT and you could easily play both schools in one trip. A Wednesday game against UT and right down the road to play a weekend series. The one thing I wish we did was travel out for at least one series a year but there are so many talented teams in the area we don't have to.

I suppose my desire to play WSU is more selfish than anything. I haven't seen a Shocker baseball game in about 11 years. After I left the area in 96 for the military I have only been back a few times. My father also misses Shocker baseball and basketball. He has had a heard time adopting a team down here. He used to post on this board or the old board a lot. Some of you may know him.

I would love to get back and see the facilities upgrades you have done the last couple of years. I went by and saw the stadium about 5 years ago and it was beautiful. We just built a new one down here but it's not anything like Wichita State's. It seats 2,000 + about 500 standing room. It's decent and has made a huge difference in recruiting for us.
