OKLAHOMA CITY -- The NCAA is citing Oklahoma State for a potential major rules violation in its baseball program.

The NCAA asked university president Burns Hargis to send school officials to an Aug. 7-8 infractions committee meeting in Indianapolis.

The Oklahoman and Tulsa World first reported the potential violations, citing documents obtained under state open records laws.

Oklahoma State spokesman Gary Shutt says a violation was committed when a former baseball player received a 10-year-old car from an out-of-state family he stayed with while playing in a summer league.

Shutt says the university contends it was not a major violation, because the family had no prior connection with Oklahoma State athletics. He says the player did not appear in any games for the Cowboys after receiving the car.

No surprise that funny things are going on down in Stoolwater! They'll get off with a slap on the wrist though.

This just seems like a family was trying to do something nice for the kid and nothing more than that. They gave him a 10-year old car, not a brand new BMW or anything like that. I think this one should pass by without much happening.

I would tend to agree with this. The problem is when a line is crossed where does it end.

It's against the NCAA rules! Whether it was an honest mistake or not. You break the rules, you suffer the consequences.

That's not entirely true. The often factor intent and connections when it comes to this. If this is a family with NO connections to OSU and really did give him an old car it shouldn't be a huge deal.
